(A/N: This fic is based on the song above of the same title!!)
Sara Lin let out a sigh, cringing as she ducked around the corner after catching the smallest of glimpse of none other than Oliver Yang himself.
She couldn't keep doing this forever.
Yeah, he liked her, and yes, it was so insanely obvious that even the most oblivious person anyone knew could tell; yep, even the famous redhead herself was aware of her younger friend's feelings towards her, and it left her in quite the conundrum.
Quite the conundrum, AKA hiding every time he came into her field of view if she could avoid him.
"You gotta stop hiding from Subs, Sara," Patrick said to her bluntly, a hand on his hip as he gave a slightly annoyed sigh.
"B-But Patrick, c'mon, cut me some slack here...! He has a crush on me, for goodness sakes!" She sputtered out in hushed tones, flustered.
"Yeah, as if you don't feel the same way." He rolled his eyes at this, not understanding why the heck she wouldn't just talk to the boy already.
The girl sighed, quieting further as her face turned slightly saddened, almost, "I don't know if I do, though, and it's not fair for me to ask him about it when I don't even know how I feel yet, and it's not like I can just act normal when he looks at me like that!"
"Can't you just pretend you don't know? Like, y'know things are just ordinary?" The brunette raised an eyebrow, failing to see how this was any different from when they pretended she had never confessed to him.
"It's just... It's complicated, Patrick..." She looked up at him, "I mean, there's so many reasons it wouldn't work out, it feels like I shouldn't like him when I know all that, and not to mention it's just... I don't understand what he sees in me, and I can't stick around forever. I'm gonna graduate and probably move away for college, so this all just feels like a massive detour to things not working out..."
At this, the boy's face softened, "You know, you really sound a lot like him right now, repressing your feelings and being super worried about it not working out.... It sounds like you're just scared to admit you like him because you're overthinking too much."
"I am scared, Patrick," she admitted, sitting against the wall, hugging her knees to her chest as tears began to prick at the corners of her eyes.
Her lip began to tremble slightly, a short breath hitching in her throat as she struggled to hold back the tears, her voice breaking, "I'm terrified, I'm terrified that I'll end up really really liking him and falling in love and dating him and then I have to leave and he has to stay and we have to break up and it's gonna hurt so bad, a-and, I-I don't want any of that, I don't wanna hurt, I'm so scared of hurting and I'm not ready to lose someone I really really care about like that!"
"Sara, you're being crazy." Her blue-eyed friend knelt down beside her, resting a gentle hand on top of her knee, "Listen to yourself, you're saying all these things that haven't even happened yet, you don't know that that'll happen. This is Oliver you're talking about, he's rational and logical and you know that he wouldn't just give up on a relationship without at least trying to find a solution, especially if it's only because you're leaving for school, and who even knows if you'll be moving so far that you can't visit on weekends and stuff! You're freaking out over nothing. Take a moment and think about it, do you want fear to be the reason you miss out on what could be an amazing relationship? He could be your person, Sara, listen to your heart."
For a moment she simply fell silent (other than the occasional sniffle), thinking over his words. Soon enough, she released her knees, letting her legs fall straight as her head tipped slightly backwards. She brought a balled fist up to her eyes, wiping away the tears that had just barely begun to cascade down her cheeks.
After a few seconds of silence and consideration, she turned her head and made eye contact with Patrick once more, "...You really think it'll work out?"
"Why don't you go find out for yourself?" He cracked a small smile, standing and offering her a hand.
Once she got past the slight shock at the idea of acting on this right this moment, she grinned, a flame of determination alighting within her eyes as she grabbed his outstretched hand, pulling herself up.
"I'm not gonna let stupid fear get in the way of this," she announced to her best friend, dramatically staring off into the distance while clenching a fist in front of her chest before looking at him again and saying, "I know what I need to do."
"Go get him!" He cheered as he flipped the girl around, giving her a gentle shove before she began running off to find the blond.
Head rapidly turning in hopes of seeing him somewhere, she eventually rounded a corner, spotting him down the hall where she then called after him. As his head whipped around at the sound of her voice, once he noticed the shorter girl, he turned and began walking toward her in confusion.
"O-Oliver, I'm so sorry, I-I know I've been avoiding you lately, i-it's just... I know you like me, ok? It's not a bad thing, I was just... I was so scared, I've been so scared of this, scared of my own feelings and whatever worst-case-scenarios my stupid brain thought up, but.... I'm not afraid anymore, Olly..." She smiled as she neared the end of her sentence, refusing to break eye contact with the boy who had that stupidly adorable flicker of lovesickness and adoration showing in his expanded pupils.
He was left with confusion on his face with his eyebrows knitted together until she reached her hand up to hold his face delicately, leaning up, albeit slowly to give him the chance to stop her if he so desired. However, no such moment came, and once he managed to get past the split moment of shock, without having fit a single word into the conversation yet, he only closed the distance between them. After all this time with so much anxiety and fear between both of them, in that one moment they had been waiting for for so long, all of that washed away.
And at long last, after several weeks of knowing he liked her, Sara Lin no longer had to pretend.

Hey y'all!
I've had this idea for a while and I'm happy I finally got around to it! The song at the top seriously made me think about the idea of Sara not being quite as oblivious as she seemed, and it felt really neat to explore that sorta concept and think about how she might act in such a scenario.Anyway, I hope y'all liked this story, please leave any ideas, prompts, thoughts, or constructive criticism in the comments, I love hearing your feedback!!
