An Invite (Can't Wait for Her to Graduate Part 2)

"I know you're not really fond of party scenes," Sara began nervously, fidgeting with her fingers, "but I'm having a grad party in a couple weeks, the Sunday after graduation... Not really even a party, honestly, it's gonna be pretty small, just a handful of people and some food and a playlist I made, maybe some decorations at most. But I'd just really like to have you there, is what I'm trying to say, I guess..."

Despite his attempts to avoid being around the girl as much as he reasonably could for the last few weeks, Oliver couldn't NOT be there. She had worked so hard to get to this point, especially with him helping her through his tutoring, so the least he could do was celebrate her successes. Besides, how could he look at that nervous yet hopeful face of hers as she held out a printed invitation to her party and tell her no for no reason other than wanting to run away from his stupid feelings? She deserved to have this.

"Yeah. I'll be there." He smiled down to her, looking down at the piece of paper that he had accepted into his own grasp.

This made the girl instantaneously grow into a bright, wide smile as her eyes lit up in visible joy, "Really?? Awesome!"

The boy's heart sped up, how could he resist that adorable face of hers? He suddenly understood once again why he had been keeping his distance lately, and cleared his throat, looking anywhere but her.

"Y-Yeah, so, uh, I'll see you there..." He muttered, keeping his eyes to the side, blushing.

"Cool! I'll see you later, Subs!" She grinned, practically skipping away in happiness.

At that exact moment, Joe stepped up behind Oliver, making his younger brother jump as he spoke suddenly, "Invited to her grad party?"

"Geez, Joe!" Oliver exclaimed, hand on his chest, heart inside already having been racing as his older brother apologized, "Sorry bro, didn't mean to scare you."

The younger of the two sighed, accepting the apology before continuing, "But yeah, she invited me. Part of me says I shouldn't go for the sake of maintaining my self-control, but honestly, I'm too happy for her that she's managed to get this far, I have to go for her."

"Atta boy," Joe smiled before switching gears slightly, "but dude, did you even see her? I know I said I wouldn't try to tell you she feels the same, but honestly, just look at how happy she got because you said you'd be at her party!"

"Joe, she likes me as a friend and I've happened to help her a lot with school stuff. She's just happy I'm coming in a completely platonic, not-into-me way, and that's okay, because it means that I can keep pretending this isn't a thing." Oliver crossed his arms, insisting his thoughts on the matter.

"She invited me too, and Patrick, and we both said we'd go, and she didn't get nearly that excited. She literally walked away from you with a spring in her step!" His blue-haired sibling remarked, refusing to give in.

The junior rolled his eyes before looking down, "Have you ever considered that she's liked both of you in the past? Maybe she's not showing as much excitement so you guys don't think she still likes either of you. She's always been extra emotional with me and she's never seen me as anything more than a friend, and again, I'm perfectly fine with that!"

Joe groaned, seeming more frustrated than Oliver had seen him in quite a long time, if ever, "Oliver, will you please just consider the very real possibility that she liked you back?? It's obvious she's got a huge crush on you too!"

A sigh from the blond, "Say I did consider it, and say she somehow did like me back, what would I even do about it? Realistically, what would I do? Tell her and start dating her and have her immediately move away for college?"

"We don't even know how far she's moving yet, if at all! All she told us was that she got into a school, who knows, maybe it's local and she'll still be living at home! When I talked about her leaving, it was honestly more of an assumption than anything, and honestly I kinda hoped it'd be a push for you to tell her," the taller boy admitted.

"Yeah, I guess that's true that we don't really know anything," the younger rationalized, sighing again, "listen, if we find out that she's for-sure staying local for school, and I open myself up, and if I PERSONALLY see a clear sign that she likes me, then MAYBE I will consider telling her. Deal?"

And though it wasn't a great deal, Joe considered it a step in the right direction since it was his incredibly stubborn brother they were talking about here. So with a smile, Joe reached his hand towards Oliver's outstretched one, firmly gripping it and shaking it.

"Deal."
