"You look lost," a feminine voice chimes up suddenly from beside the unsuspecting blond boy.
He jumps slightly, looking over at the ginger smiling at him and sighing, "oh, it's just you."
"Yeah, I saw you in the store window. Whatcha lookin' for?" Sara grins happily with hands behind her back.
"I'm just trying to do something for Joe.... He's got this writing competition thing he's doing? He's nervous and he always cooks for me so I just... I don't know.... Thought I'd bake him cookies or something before the results came back...." He finishes with a cough to the side, embarrassed.
This makes the girl melt slightly as she coos, "aww, that's so cute!"
"C-Cute...?" He asks, raising an eyebrow at her, red beginning to color his face.
"Yeah!" She giggles, "you have no clue how to cook but you wanna learn to bake from scratch just for your brother!! That's so sweet, Olly!"
"Don't call me that...." He mutters shyly as he looks back at the shelf, "but I just have no idea what I'm doing, like you said..."
Sara smiles, "I can help you!"
"Really?" The taller boy looks at her again, getting an immediate nod, "of course! I love baking and I'd love to help you after all you've helped me with, with tutoring and all!"
He gives the back of his head a scratch, "thanks Sara, I owe you."
"No, you don't!" She says, still with a smile, looking back over and beginning to grab stuff off the shelf before he had time to argue, "since you don't know much about baking it's probably best to keep it simple and go for a basic chocolate chip cookie, my dad and I have this amazing recipe we found a bunch of years ago!"
The boy watches her pull things and put them in the basket she had stolen from his arm as she rambled about how she knew it by heart by now and how she had been asked for the recipe a million times and how easy it is for a beginner even for something made from scratch. A smile comes to his face as she begins walking to find other ingredients they'd need, keeping his eyes focused on the girl that seemed to be glowing. She was so candidly happy and genuinely passionate about something she enjoyed doing, it caught him off guard to see her so eager to assist him, but he couldn't help but notice the slight flutter in his stomach as she turned to him with a smile a few minutes later.
"Okay, that should be everything!" She affirmed with a nod, making her way up towards the checkout.
"Oh, h-hey, stop, I'll pay-" Oliver began upon noticing the girl take out her wallet only for her to look at him, "lets at least split it, it can be a little something from both of us!"
Looking at Sara as she tilted her head, awaiting his answer, he couldn't resist the spark of joy in her eyes and gave in, looking away with a blush, "f-fine.... We can split...."
"Yay! That was easier than I thought," she giggled with a victorious clap of her hands.
Both of the two pulled roughly equal amounts of money and handed it off to the cashier, a smile briefly glancing at Oliver, his face going red once more.
As the two walked out of the store, they stepped back in front of the window, stopping as Sara spoke once more, "okay, so I'm supposed to be doing something with my dad tonight, but I'll come over tomorrow morning to help, maybe around 11? Does that sound good?"
"Perfect, Joe won't be home since he was telling me about plans with some friends that he'd be leaving early for anyway," the blond nodded with a small smile peeking at his face.
Something seemed to catch the girl's eye as she turned her head to look back at the window, making Oliver glance as well, though seeing nothing. She, however, smiles with a small chuckle.
"That's cute, isn't it?" She says quietly, giving a slight laugh, confusing the boy beside her, "huh?"
"Oh, not inside, I mean the reflection. That's an aesthetic pair if I've ever seen one," the ginger giggles, pulling him into a side hug as she admires the faint reflection of the two.
At her touch and the comment, Oliver's face warms drastically, uncontrollable nervous chuckles escaping him, "heh, uh, y-yeah, sure...."
"O-Okay, um, Joe was making dinner, s-so um, I'm just gonna go now," he mumbles with wide shaken eyes, cheeks bright red as he steps out of her arm, speed-walking off.
"Oh, here, give me this then, don't want to spoil the surprise with all the ingredients!" She calls, taking to a slight jog to catch up before taking the bags and sending him off again, "alright, don't wanna keep him waiting! See you tomorrow morning!"
He sighs to himself after only giving a small wave in response, "how on earth am I going to make it through if she keeps doing that.... Whatever.... That's a problem for tomorrow morning...."
