TW: Hospital settings, frequent mention of surgery, conversation with implications of death mentioned
ALSO AS ALWAYS PLEASE IGNORE LITERALLY ANYTHING MEDICAL I SAY HERE- I TRIED TO LOOK STUFF UP BUT FOR THE LOVE OF GOD DO NOT TRUST ME FOR MEDICAL STUFF.
"Oh my god, please let her be okay..." Oliver mumbled to himself with his forehead in hand with his elbow resting on his knee in the waiting room.
"She'll be okay, it's Sara, she has to," Patrick said from the other side of Joe, between the two.
As much as the brunette wished he could say he was, seeing that he was the girl's best friend, he knew he wasn't anywhere near as distraught as the boy by his side. Blue eyes glanced to green ones and seeing his face, he knew how much he was panicking and could tell he was just as scared as if it were his own life on the line.
Around a half-hour ago the blond had rushed the girl to the hospital, having grabbed the nearest cab and carried her through the doors as though she weighed nothing after she collapsed with an agonized scream out of nowhere. Joe, Patrick, and Vicky followed close behind after hearing the news, her father unable to come immediately due to travel, and were all in the waiting room, anxious for any update.
"Family of Sara Lin?" A nurse walked out and addressed them, to which Vicky nodded, but Patrick spoke for the rest of them, "she's family, we're friends."
"Any guardian?" She asked again, to which the blue-haired girl shook her head and explained the situation.
The woman sighed before speaking again sympathetically, "well, I'm sorry we've had to keep you waiting so long on any news. She had an untreated case of appendicitis and it seems her appendix ruptured, we had to get her into an immediate surgery once we figured out what had happened. Had she said anything about any sort of stomach-area pain before she passed out?"
They all looked to Oliver, having been the last one with her, "she never said anything was this bad, she looked uncomfortable and I asked if she was okay but she said she figured it was just cramps or something, she thought maybe they were worse than usual..."
"That's not uncommon," she said to this with a pitiful kind of tone, "that stuff isn't normal, she should've come as soon as she felt something off."
"Don't blame her for this!" The boy snapped slightly, the nurse taken aback by the behavior, though understanding the tension and replying calmly, "what I mean is that this shouldn't be something that's ignored, and there isn't enough education on that sort of thing, even if it was just painful cramps. It's not supposed to be that bad and it's unhealthy that that's treated as normal. I'm not blaming her for anything."
Oliver stays quiet at this, and everyone watches him as he fights back his emotions and stress until he looks back up to her and asks quietly, "will she be okay?"
"That's what we're trying to make sure. If you want honesty, there's no complete guarantee here. A burst appendix can be fatal if it's left untreated, so it's a good thing you got her here when you did. Compared to others this is a relatively safe surgery, but like any other, there's always the possibility of complications. Excessive bleeding, wound infection, inflammation... Those are all relatively mild, but she should be okay from what I know about her current situation. The worst that could happen at the moment since she's stable now is that she needs to stay a few extra days for further treatment if an infection were to happen," she explained to all of them.
The others sigh a sort of breath of relief, but Oliver remains in silence, still terrified. Thoughts and worst-case scenarios raced through his mind and he rested his forehead back on clasped hands.
