"Morning," Sara smiled and blushed, walking out the door to her apartment and seeing the boy that made her stomach erupt in butterflies just outside the door of his own apartment.
She took a small bite of the donut her dad had picked up for her on his way home last night as he smiled back at her, but barely able to look her in the eyes without exploding, "hey. What's that?"
Holding up the donut in her hand as she swallowed, "oh this? It's a pumpkin spice donut, want a piece?"
"O-oh no thanks, it's your food, I don't want to take it. It does smell good though," he found himself muttering quietly as the smell reached him and he inhaled the scent.
Giggling a small bit, she ripped a sizable chunk off and handed it to him, "here, I can tell you want some."
Taking it carefully from her, he smiled gratefully as he said a soft thanks. As he took a bite of the dough his eyes widened in awe at the amazing taste.
"Woah, this is amazing!" He exclaimed to her as he took another bite, savoring the flavor.
As she laughed back she replied, "I know, right?"
Beginning their walk to school, though a bit early, they finished their remaining pieces of the donut in silence, not exactly comfortable nor tense, but just kind of uneasy, as if they were nervous to mess up. After a few moments and two napkins to wipe their fingers later, they continued walking.
"Now what?" Sara asked the boy quietly as he glanced over, pink in the face.
"I'm not totally sure."
"We both know what happened, and correct me if I'm wrong, but we both know we liked it...."
Without a moment of hesitation, he full-on whirled his head to face her, lightly grabbing her hand that had been dangling between them out of instinct, "yeah, of course," then realizing what he had done, dropping her hand and his head, "I-I mean- What I mean is, yes. We both liked it."
With a blush raging across his face, he cringed at himself and his actions as his shoulders tensed before he felt her grab his hand again gently making them both stop, looking to see her starting at him, red covering her cheeks, "you don't need to be so careful, whatever you're thinking I'm probably thinking the same thing right now, to be honest."
"How can you be so sure?" He asked quietly, nervous, scared they weren't truly on the same page.
Sara sighed, nervous as well but wanting to get somewhere in the conversation as she moved "I guess I'm not.... Yesterday just..... Kinda told me that, you know? We were just living in uncertainty for so long, but the moment we got the nerve up to try something we were on the exact same page."
"You have a point," he mumbled, still not sure exactly what to say, feeling the girls soft touch on his hand as she grasped it lightly, making him brightly blush.
They both just stood there for a moment, looking down at their hands. Sara knew what she wanted to do, but wanted to give Oliver a chance to make the move before she took control of anything else. After a moment, he inhaled sharply, holding his breath as he nervously switched the way their hands were linked, intertwining their fingers carefully. Looking up at her for any signs that she may be uncomfortable, but when she only looked up at him with a smile, for he had done exactly what she wanted to, he smiled back through his nerves. She gave his hand a gentle reassuring squeeze as they started walking again.
Smiling to themselves, Sara spoke, "thank you."
"For what?"
"For this," she raised their hands a bit, grinning happily, "I missed the confidence. What happened to Mr. 'I guess you fell for me' from yesterday? Mr. 'Can I kiss you?'"
Chuckling a bit, "I guess it's different when it's real, it all just felt so crazy yesterday, like it wasn't real life, but now that it's had time to, I don't know, sink in? It's a lot scarier."
"I understand."
Silence followed, more comfortable than before, with their interlocked hands lightly swaying between them, until Oliver spoke up, "we've still gotta talk about yesterday, now that I think of it."
"Okay, let's talk about it then," Sara answered simply, continuing to face forward.
After a moment's pause, "so..... We kissed...."
"We did."
"And we liked it."
"Yes we did," the redhead answered, smiling as she stared out at the sidewalk in front of her.
He glanced over at her, catching her eye, "so where does that leave us?"
"Well right now it sounds like it leaves us as two confused teenagers who kissed and clearly have feelings for each other but are too scared to ask about a relationship," she said matter-of-factly without missing a beat, as though she had rehearsed for the question.
Shocked by how blunt and straightforward she had been, he stutter slightly, "uh, y-yeah, you hit the nail right on the head."
"Should I take the bullet then?"
Confused by her statement, he questioned her, "What do you mean?"
She once again stopped walking, turning to fully face him, the blond boy doing the same when he noticed she paused. Unlocking their fingers, she continued to hold his hand in front of them, but also grabbed his other hand in a similar fashion. Trying to work past the nervousness she felt bubbling up inside of her, she forcibly sighed the breath she was holding.
The bright blush overtaking her face, she spoke, her voice with a small quiver, "Oliver, do you want to be my boyfriend?"
Realizing what she had asked a short second later, the boy's ever-present red color only deepened as he paused for a moment, too shocked, replying after a short bit of quiet, his voice soft and surprised, "y-yeah, o-of course I do."
Letting out a sigh of relief, she looked back to him as she began to talk again, "I know you asked me yesterday and I know I already asked this before, but I'm hoping you don't say no this time...." She glanced briefly down to his lips then back up to his wide eyes, "Can I kiss you?"
Finally grasping the situation, the happiness overcame him as the fear washed away, only the tiniest bit of nervousness remaining as he genuinely smiled, answering quietly, "I don't think you have to ask anymore."
And as if the night before was repeating itself, they found themselves meeting in a soft kiss once again, able to feel the heat radiating from each other's faces as Oliver removed his hand from hers to cup her jaw. Soon enough, Sara was the first to pull back, finding herself giggling at the thought passing through her mind.
"You taste like pumpkin spice."
