"In nature, nothing is perfect and everything is perfect. Trees can be contorted, bent in weird ways and they are still beautiful."
- Alice Walker

We all love nature, in different ways and for different reasons. We worship Mother Nature one day, and the next day we happily do things to destroy nature. This has been going on for years, but now, it has become worse.

In today's world where likes and comments on social media matter more than real things, some of us only turn to nature to get those pictures. We would click the pictures, and that's it. That's where the love and care of some of us towards nature stops. At the same time, there are people who actually care about nature. People who genuinely love spending their time surrounded by the beautiful views of nature. People who want to do their best to save nature.

Observed every year on 28th July all over the world, World Nature Conservation Day helps create awareness about the need to protect and conserve precious natural resources. It is an important step in acknowledging that a healthy and pollution free environment is the actual foundation for a healthy and flourishing society.

Natural resources, both renewable and non renewable, need to be conserved. However, conversation should not be confused with preservation. While Conservation refers to the sustainable use of resources by humans, keeping in mind the needs of the future generations, Preservation refers to protecting nature from human use.

Objective behind this: Threats to nature are increasing day by day, be it in the form of deforestation, using more and more plastics, or dumping the waste in the wrong way. Each and every step we take to harm our nature, whether knowingly or unknowingly, affects the planet Earth in a huge way. And this is exactly why World Nature Conservation Day is celebrated. While some countries have started realising the importance of conserving nature and have taken steps regarding that, the need of the hours requires all of us to do our very best in conserving the resources.

Importance:
Nature Conservation is more important than most of us think it is, as if we continue depleting the resources at the current rate, then there would be no resources left for the future generations. Aside from this, conservation is also important to:
1.Support ecological balance
2. Do our day to day activities
3. Protect the biodiversity
4. Ensure the survival of human beings

Do you realize how vital it is to conserve our resources?
And do you realize how we are damaging the natural world without even giving it a thought?

Extra information:
In India, increasing urbanisation has led to the loss of forest area. While on one hand, we are progressing towards becoming more advanced, on the other hand, we are destroying the sources of our basic needs. However, the country has taken some appreciative initiatives to conserve our nature.

A few notable steps are:
1. Nagar Van Udyan Scheme
Keeping in mind the fact that spending more time with nature helps in improving the quality of life, this scheme aims at creating at least one forest in each and every city. It plans on creating open spaces for recreation, and also to educate people about the variety of biodiversity.

2. Waste management under Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan
A mass movement of cleanliness launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2014, includes an initiative to improve the waste management rules to lower the levels of waste produced and further improve waste management process of.

3. Project Tiger
Introduced in 1973 to improve the declining number of tigers in the country, its objectives include protection, habit restoration and a lot more. This has been successful as the number of tigers went from 1710 in 2011 to 2967 tigers in 2018.

4. Mangroves for the Future (MFF)
It is a multi-country initiative coordinated by the International Union of Conservation of Nature (IUCN), initially covering six tsunami affected countries, including India. Because of this project, mangroves have increased by more than 100 square kilometers in the past few years.

5. National Wetland Conservation Programme
Wetlands are small areas of shallow water where the water table is near the surface. This project aims to conserve and promote awareness about the proper use of wetlands in India to prevent further degradation.

Conclusion: Celebrating World Nature Conservation Day is not very hard, you don't have to go out of your way to do so. You can simply take an oath to use the resources judiciously and contribute as much as you can whenever possible. Remember to appreciate this gift of nature we have been given, and take a step in ensuring that our future generations do not find the resources lacking for their needs.

"We did not inherit the Earth from our ancestors. We have borrowed it from our children."
