The United Nations proclaimed ‘21 November’ as Television day in the year 1996. As on the date the first world television forum was held in 1996.

Since that day, World Television Day is celebrated every year on the 21st of November.

What is Television?

Television also called, TV or tele, is a telecommunication medium.

It is used for transmitting moving images in monochrome or in color, and in two or three dimensions and sound.

The term television came from Ancient Greek which meant 'far', and Latin which meant 'sight'. It is usually referred to the terms television set, television show or the medium of television transmission.

Television is a mass medium for various purposes like advertising, entertainment, news, and sports.

Inventors of television

Philo Farnsworth,John Logie Baird and Charles Francis Jenkins are said to be the ones who had invented Television.

While in India, B. Sivakumaran is said to be the inventor of television.

History of television in India

In January 1950, The Indian Express reported that a television was put up for demonstration at an exhibition in the Teynampet locality of Madras by B.Sivakumaran, who was a student of electrical engineering.

With time, Indian small screen programming began, mainly from the early 1980s.

During this time, there was only one national channel, the government-owned Doordarshan. The Famous Indian epis, that is, Ramayana and Mahabharata, were the first major television series produced.

They notched up a world record in viewership numbers and by the late 1980s, more people started to own television sets.

Today's Generation

In today's world television is available in most of the houses in various types, shapes and sizes. As well as more modernized television sets are available in the market.

As the rate of the selling of television is increasing, the problems related to it are growing too.

Mainly the youth of the nation are affected because of them. Adding to the point, the youth are addicted to their televisions which have caused them various disorders and mood effects.

Television which once was used as ease for people is now taken as a bad advantage. The people should pay attention to these otherwise it could affect the nation and future generation in the worst way.
