India. A land of diversity, and different cultures, and unique lifestyles. A place where everyone is different, and knows the world differently.
And yet, we are not divided.

These were the words Dr. Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan spoke when a group of his students approached him regarding the celebrations of his birthday. And, this is the reason September 5th of every year is observed as Teacher's Day in India: to celebrate the birth anniversary of Dr. S. Teachers are the backbone of mankind. This noble profession is the bridge that leads to all the other professions. Teachers shoulder a huge responsibility of not only educating the students, but also making them better individuals. The society would be highly uncivilized if not for the teachers.
Who exactly are teachers? Are they the ones who teach you how to speak, read and write? Are they the ones who teach you calculations? Are they the ones who teach you to strive hard and achieve great heights in life? Are they the ones who correct you when you are wrong? Are they the ones who encourage you to work harder and smarter?
If you ask me, I would say, everyone of us is a teacher and everyone we meet is a teacher to us. We get to learn a lot from each person we meet and each situation we face. We just have to be understanding enough to learn.
Our parents who instill values in us, our relatives who, in their own way, push us to strive harder, our friends who correct us when we are on the wrong path, our school teachers, lecturers and professors who help us acquire knowledge and motivate us, the strangers we come across who in some way or the other manage to say or do something that strikes a chord with us; all of mankind, sometimes even the other living beings and the situations we face guide us in our lives.

So, let's take this day out and be grateful to all such teachers, who in some way or the other, have influenced our lives.
