World Photography Day is celebrated every year on August 19th. Globally, it marks the day when everyone acknowledges the art, history and technology of photography. Discussions and activities are done on this day to celebrate the beautiful and delicate art of photography and also to encourage people to pursue photography as their hobby or career.

In 1837, French developed a photographic process known as the 'Daguerreotype'. On this day in 1839, French government purchased the patent of this idea and announced it as "a free gift to the world" without any copyright.

On August 19th, 2010, the world's first online gallery of photos were shared from amateur and professional photographers from all parts of the world.
