The third day of Navratri, the Tritiya tithi is meant for worshipping Maa Chandraghanta. She is also known as Suhag Ki Devi.


Maa Chandraghanta is known to be the married form of Goddess Durga. After her marriage with God Shiva, she started wearing a half moon and came to be known as Maa Chandraghanta. The word Chandra means Moon and Ghanta neans bell. As the moon is in bell shaped, she is known as Chandraghanta. Maa Chandraghanta is the destroyer of evil and is responsible for establishing justice in the world. According to a tale associated with Hindu Mythology during a battle with monsters and demons, her bell ringed a horrible and ferocious sound. She has a third eye that opena during battle. Maa Chandraghanta sets her devotees free from obstacles and symbolizes power, courage and bravery.

Maa Chandraghanta sits on a tiger anf has ten hands. She holds a Trishul, Gada, Talwar, Kamandal in left hand and Lotus, an Arrow, Bow and a Japa Mala in the right hand. She also holds Abhaya Mudra and Vara Mudra in the other two hands respectively.

 As jasmine flowers are her favourite, they are offered to Maa Chandraghanta along with kheer made of milk and makhana as bhog
