Celebrations are a way of enjoying, sharing and displaying happiness around the world. They are responsible for just celebrating happiness and many historic achievements, some religious traditions, and many more.

One such celebration is Yorkshire Day celebrated every year on 1st August by the people of England. The Day holds much significant importance as to why it is much cherished nationally and even recognized globally. The day was first renowned for its historical importance which later on included every special point about the county of Yorkshire.

The Yorkshire Day was first organized in 1975 by The Ridings Society of Yorkshire who wanted to protect the county's individuality and character. The day gained popularity later on and is now celebrated throughout the country with full enthusiasm. August 1 was chosen as it was the day the soldiers of Yorkshire fought and won in the Battle of Minden in Germany. The white roses were worn as headdresses by the soldiers for paying tribute to their dead comrades and help mark the celebration and hence, became a significant part of the celebration. However, some people use do use simple red roses too.

The current Yorkshire Day was created to mark the protest by the Yorkshire Ridings Society, a group from Beverley. They had revived the day in protest against the local government reforms that came into force in 1974. Originally the day of celebrations started with just reading, but now the day is all about Yorkshire and its history, tradition and culture. Mainly the celebrations involve eating a large amount of traditional Yorkshire food which includes traditional Yorkshire Pudding and many more. And an important traditional custom that is upheld by some is reading of the Yorkshire Declaration of Integrity, including the members of The YorkshireRidings Society.

Yorkshire Day is celebrated to remember the largest country in the UK, Yorkshire. Yorkshire Day was first celebrated in 1975, the event has grown in popularity and is now celebrated in most towns and villages that consider themselves part of the 'real' Yorkshire.

The Yorkshire Ridings Society chose August 1st as this was the day when Yorkshire soldiers who had fought in the Battle of Minden picked white roses as tributes to their dead comrades. For the British military, the day also commemorates the Battle of Minden between the Anglo-German army and French forces in 1759, during the Seven Years' War, 260 years ago.

Yorkshire day can be celebrated in several ways. You can travel to this country and enjoy some of its iconic food, including Yorkshire Pudding, Wensleydale Cheese & fruit, Ginger Beer, Pikelets, and Parkin.

A tradition of Yorkshire Day is members of the Yorkshire Society recite a Declaration of Integrity.
