Hello readers or should I say Namaste?
Well, Namaste will be better I guess, since it's about yoga. You know that the only thing which was born in India but went into the foster home of foreigners. Come on, everyone knows I am right. After all, it's the Britishers and Americans who do more yoga than the Indians themselves. May be Martians too do yoga more than us fellow Indians. Now let's see some information on yoga. Does anyone know the history of it? If yes, please point out my mistake. If no, scroll down kid, you seriously can't miss out this topic.
The Sanskrit noun Yoga (योग) is derived from the Sanskrit root Yuj (युज्) which means to attach, join, harness, yoke. In the context of yoga sutras, the word Yoga means Union. But according to Panini, it derives from word Yuj Samadhu which means to concentrate. He argues over the fact that Vyasa, the writer of the first commentary of Yoga Sutras, has defined Yoga as Samadhi, to concentrate.
Yoga is a wide group of physical, mental, and spiritual practices or disciplines which originated in ancient India. Yoga is one of the six Āstika (orthodox) schools of Hindu Philosophical Tradition. But in the Western World, it refers to only some specific asanas, postures, pranayama, and exercises.
Although the systematic practice of yoga has been started from 5th or 6th century, the recent studies say it has been dated back to the pre-Vedic period, i.e., 3000 B.C.E. or more specifically early Indus Valley Civilization, but no chronological proofs have been found about its origin.
Reference of yoga has been found in many ancient scripts Rigveda and Upanishads being the most important. The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali which was written in the 2nd Century, B.C.E. gained prominence through Swami Vivekananda during the late 20th Century. Many classical Indian texts talk about the 'goal' of Yoga. But the keen study of these texts acknowledges that the main aim is to attain 'Moksha' (liberation).
Yoga has five principal traditional meanings: 1. A disciplined method for attaining a goal. 2. Techniques for controlling the body and the mind. 3. A name of a school or system of philosophy (darśana). 4. With prefixes such as 'Hatha-', 'mantra-', and 'laya-', traditions specialising in particular techniques of yoga. 5.The goal of Yoga practice.
Yogas are of eight types 1. Ashtanga Yoga or Classical Yoga 2. Buddhist Yoga 3. Jain Yoga 4. Vedanta Yoga or Yoga of Advaita Vedanta 5. Tantric Yoga 6. Hatha Yoga 7. Laya Yoga 8. Kundalini Yoga
But nowadays we only get to see Modiji's Yoga and Ramdev Baba's yoga. Oh, but don't worry, these are also yoga. The current situation of Indians are like, stand on one leg with hands up and wiggle around to keep your balance for one day and it's done. You are a Yogi. Sit under the caves of Rishikesh or Kedarnath, and the whole world shouting there goes the Yogi. No, yoga is more than standing on one foot or sitting with your eyes closed and fall asleep.
Yoga is the divine way of connecting your body, mind and soul together, tightly enough to seclude yourself from the world outside. It's the way to find yourself, to know who you truly are before getting lost into the selfish, corrupted world of ours.
Yoga is more than a trend or habit, it's the lifestyle itself. (Don't watch our P.M. Modi's bhashan or Shilpa Shetty's sexy figure)
🧘🏻♀️Sit in your room, kick everyone out, close all doors and windows, turn off the lights, make sure there is enough O2 in your room (don't suffocate yourself), and try to concentrate on a point. 🧘🏻♂️You can add mild music (when I say mild it means mild, not wild) or there are many guides of meditation available on YouTube. 🧘🏻♀️Try to think through the things you have done in the whole day and try to think what are you going to do next. 🧘🏻♂️Relax your body. Let it float. 🧘🏻♀️You can also think about the books you read, the movies you watched, the celebs you fangirled on or the sums you were not able to crack in your online classes.
Believe me, it helps. If after doing this you don't feel lightheaded, it means you were not focused. Try it again. Mistakes happen. But the pleasure that you get, is surely not another regret. Try it. And if you think it helped. Try the asanas out. You can find them on YouTube and cure.fit app.
But make sure to do pranayama after asana because the exercise of mind is equally important to that of your body.
