Banner by- dusky_dreamsYou will not find one Country in this world which does not have a Minority group of people. Be it based on Linguistics, Ethnicity, Religions, etc. Every Country of this world has some Minority groups, and every Country in this world has Minority rights.
Minority rights are the rights that are made to protect the basic rights of all groups of people and to protect the Sovereignty of these groups. In India, 18th December has been recognized as Minority Rights Day. India is one of the most- if not the most- Diverse land of this world. With 26 different languages, countless different cultures, and ethnic groups, Several different Tribes, and castes and so many different Religions all living in the same country with equal rights.
Sometimes these rights of equality can be threatened and so this why we have Minority rights. But In India, these Laws and Rights do not extend to just the Minority of ethnic-religious groups but to even those who are from economically and socially disadvantaged backgrounds. India Believes in Equal rights for all, but even so, It has recognized some
religious groups, as minorities, as well as the Scheduled Tribes and caste, and
Socially and economically impaired are also considered to be Minorities. All these have been granted some special rights that Protect their Basic Citizen Rights from the Majority that might threaten it. As of 2006 India Officially Recognises Muslims, Christians, Sikhs, Buddhists, and Zoroastrians (Parsis) as Minorities but in 2014 Jains were also Included in the aforementioned.
Every state in India has a State Office for Minority affairs, any person considered to be a minority may take their grievances to the states departments and get the proper help that they might need.
Most Minorities of the country are not even aware of such Offices. Please spread the word and let people with economic and social disadvantage and other minorities know that they can avail help from the Minority affairs offices of their states.
