India. A land of diversity, and different cultures, and unique lifestyles. A place where everyone is different, and knows the world differently.
And yet, we are not divided.
Diverse, but unified. Contrasting cultures, in harmony. Unique, but toget...
The second day, the dwitiya tithi of Navratri is dedicated to Maa Bramhacharini. She is considered as one of the forms of Goddess Durga and has many names like Aparna, Uma etc.
It is believed that Maa Parvati was born at Daksha Prajapati's home and Maa Bramhacharini is the unmarried form of Goddess Durga. She was on fast for many years and consumed only fruits to get Lord Shiva as her husband. She stayed outside during summer, winter and rainy season. She underwent the hardest way of expiation to be Lord Shiva's wife and thus achieved the name of Bramhacharini. The word "Bramhacharini" is the combination of two words- Bramha which means penance and Charini which means conduct.
Maa Bramhacharini blesses those who worship her with knowledge and wisdom. It is also believed that those who worship her always remain calm. Maa Bramhacharini wears white clothes, walks barefoot and holds a "kamandal" in her left hand and a "japa mala" in her right hand.
