The National Pollution Control Day is celebrated every year on 2nd of December in India in order to give the honor and memorialize the thousands of people who had lost their life because of the Bhopal gas calamity. To honour and remember the dead, every year this event is celebrated in our country on 2nd December. The Bhopal gas tragedy was caused by leakage of toxic chemicals known as methyl isocyanate (MIC) as well as other chemicals from Union Carbide's chemical plant in Bhopal on the night of 2 and 3 December 1984.
More than five lakh people got exposed to the toxic gases and at least four thousand were killed in the following days. Thousands more died due to the effects of the gas leak in the following years. The city of whole Bhopal remains closed on 3rd December as a day to grief that unfortunate tragedy.
