| FRIENDSHIP DAY |

Written by

Silent corridors filled with laughter -

With every passing year, our bond grew stronger -

Growing together; diverging into success-

Yet we hold on to the roots of our friendship -

Even if we do not meet every day; any longer!

We all need friends around us. It is said that friends are usually the ones with whom we can share everything. Even the facts that we cannot share with close family. This is one relationship with no expectations, no demands, no compromises, no sorry' s and no thank you!

Friendship is the relationship we choose and build. International Friendship Day is important to celebrate this special bond. The origin dates to 1919 with a history involving Joyce Halls and Hallmark cards, which involved people sending cards to each other celebrating their friendship. It was proposed to be celebrated by Dr. Ramon Artemio Bracho when he was dining with his friends in a small river town in Paragay in the year 1958. This led to the origin of the World Friendship Crusade, promoting friendship irrespective of caste, colour and creed. After a few years; this dried up completely; but in the year 1998; Nane Annan, wife of US secretary Kofi Annan, named Whinnie the Pooh the ambassador for friendship and the United Nations declared July 30th as International Friendship Day.

Many parts of the world celebrate friendship day on July 30th except for Bangladesh, India, Malaysia, United Arab Emirates and the United States celebrate this day on the first Sunday of August.

Argentina, Brazil, Spain and Urague celebrate Friendship Day on 20th July.

This day encourages people in the country and all over the world to connect with friends.

In schools and colleges, we would usually celebrate friendship day by tying friendship bracelets to our closest friends. Each year we carefully go shopping to make selections of appropriate friendship bands and what we would need. These bracelets are decorative bracelets given as a symbol of friendship. They are also known as Friendship Bands and are extremely popular in India, Nepal, South America and Bangladesh. In few other parts of the World, friends celebrate this day by exchanging cards and gifts.

Friendship is the most precious relationship anyone can have, and it is something that needs to be saved and valued for eternity and beyond.

Friendship Day
By vjmarvel

Friends are the beacon of hope, truthfulness and goodness. It's not an achievement to make 100 friends in a year, but an achievement is when you make a friend for 100 years.

We celebrate various festivals and friendship day is regarded as one of them now.
The history of friendship day dates back to 1930.
It was originated by Joyce Hall, the founder of Hallmark cards.
The first world friendship day was proposed for 30 July in 1958.
Various countries celebrate friendship day on different days, but the United Nations marked world friendship day on 30th July.
Winnie the Pooh is named the ambassador of friendship.

Friendship Day signifies the importance of harmonious friendships, which ultimately help in promoting love and peace amongst human beings. Life can get rough sometimes in that time friends are the ones who make it fun and help us fight against all odds. It's easier to share sorrows with friends. You are never afraid to be idiotic and hilarious in front of friends just because they love you as who you are.

This day is celebrated by exchanging gifts and greetings with each other.
In India, we celebrate this day on the First Sunday of August (i.e. on August 2 this year) by exchanging colourful presents and friendship bands.

In life, we make millions of friends, but only a few are left with us as time passes by. Even though some might not be there with us still their memories are always secured deep in our hearts. Friends are an important part of our lives and nothing can get better if we celebrate a day devoted to friendship.

Friendship is a ship that never sinks.

"The glory of friendship is not the outstretched hand, nor the kindly smile, nor the joy of companionship; it is the spiritual inspiration that comes to one when you discover that someone else believes in you and is willing to trust you with a friendship."
- Ralph Waldo Emerson

Wishing you all a very happy friendship day.
