Tigers are both beautiful and resilient. But they're also majestic. You would totally fall in love with their appearance and want to see them, but when you're in front of them, the only thing you'll wish is to get away! Why? Tiger is the national animal of India! These "umbrella species" (whose habitat is too large that their conservation also saves other species) have created a huge fear inside us but we still give them a great preference. Sanctuaries, reserves, museums, making of new laws, and even a day fully dedicated for them! Tigers are the largest cat species that is sustaining around the world. The International Tiger Day! This day is celebrated annually on the 29th of the month, July.

History
This day is mostly identified for making people aware of the conservation of tigers. International Tiger Day is also for gaining more help on conserving tigers. It was said that in 1990, there were more than 1,00,000 (1 lakh) tigers in the world but it went down to 3,200 by 2010. All those years, the Tigers were almost near to extinction. Especially in 2014, there were only 688 tigers.12 countries including India had signed an agreement to save tigers and increase their count within 2022 and India had got it by 2019 itself by gaining 1,033 tigers! This agreement that changed the history was signed by countries in the Saint Petersburg Tiger Summit in Russia is actually recognized as the International Tiger Day.

The theme of the event
"Their Survival is in our hands" is the slogan/theme that is used for International Tiger Day. Currently, the main aim is to spread awareness about the decreasing population of tigers in the world.

Significance
The Tigers also face many threats across India. Many get killed for money, many get poisoned, many die just because of some kind of disease/calamity or maybe by falling into the traps of poachers. This has been controlled a lot inside India by bringing many laws just for animals. But, it still continues. It is just 3,900 tigers globally and there has been a major depletion in the population of tigers from the beginning of the 20th century. Almost 95% of tigers had disappeared from the world in the 20th century. The struggles for conserving the tigers in the 1970s had been a total loss since the tigers kept depleting a lot. This had lead to the agreement on saving tigers and increasing their number by 2022.

India's Project Tiger was launched in 1973 to increase the number of tigers in India and to conserve them. If that project wasn't executed or had failed in between, we could've seen the tigers extinct by now. The efforts had made a great result and India is the only country with the highest number of tigers globally. India's continuing interest and efforts to save wild animals has made us attain a greater extent with 75% of the globe's tigers in India.

Causes for decreation of Tigers In the World
Poaching: One of the main reasons why tigers disappear from our lands is due to the illegal capture and trading of tigers. A tiger's each one of its body parts is worth a lot. Skin, whiskers, teeth, even tail is taken for crores!
Loss of habitat: Yes, tigers do lose their habitat because of a few mistakes by us humans. While we cut the trees for land, wood and space, we're killing tigers indirectly. It has been found that 93% of tigers die because of deforestation. How would you feel when someone destroys your land and takes over it? Depressing, isn't it? Tigers do feel the same when we cut down the forest for our use.
Climate variations: Yes, climate changes do affect the life of tigers. When there is no water left in those forests, they have to wander around the humans or they die of thirst. Mostly it is because of the sea level rising and clearing out the Sundarbans which has a large population of Bengal tigers.

Different species of Tigers
There are a few varieties of Tigers all around the world and they're listed below.
Bengal Tiger: Tigers which are mostly found in Asian countries. They're found in Nepal, India, Bangladesh, and Bhutan.
Malaysian Tiger: Tigers that are exclusively found in the South of the Malay Peninsula.
Siberian Tiger: These types of tigers live in the cold regions only.
Indochinese Tiger: These tigers are seen in the countries of Asia. Burma, Cambodia, China, Thailand, Laos and Vietnam. They're found to be extinct in 2020.
Sumatran Tigers: Can be termed as the most charismatic endangered species on the earth. These tigers are the largest cat family members!
South-China Tigers: These tigers are the most endangered species of tigers even more than the Sumatran tigers!

Extinct Tigers
Bali Tigers - [2003]
Javan Tigers - [2003]
Caspian Tigers - [1960-1970]
Indochinese Tigers - [2020]

How to conserve tigers?
Let's reduce deforestation and taking over the forests which is actually the habitat for not only tigers but many animals!
Change to reservoirs and sanctuaries rather than zoos. Being in a cage isn't what someone wants. And to make the tigers feel at home and also making a habitat for other animals, make more reservoirs and sanctuaries rather than zoos.
Spread awareness. We can't do anything else other than these. Yes, there might be a bit more things we can do, but for a common person, spreading awareness is much more simple and effective.

Tigers are a great beauty and pride to our land. India has been conserving them for ages so we and our future generations can see the tigers walking in life and not preserved in the museums like those extinct dinosaurs.

Let's do what we can to save these animals.
These beautiful yet vicious animals are actually a part of nature.
Part of the world.
Part of US.
