Chapter 48: Stranded

RAMDAM ko ang paghaging ng bala malapit sa pisngi ko. Pero hindi ako natinag.

"He doesn't need any explanation. I killed him fast para kahit magsisi ay hindi man lang niya magawa kagaya ng pagpatay niya kaagad sa mga magulang mo at kay Yoon."

This woman in front of me is far from the teenage girl I fell in love with before. This Shana in front of me is a cold-blooded murderess. Someone who never even blinks when killing. I clenched my hand in frustration.

"Where are you going?" She asked as she hid her gun under her jacket.

"Away from here," I said in a defeated tone.

I could feel the throbbing veins in my forehead. Sumakay na ako ng sasakyan ko. Bigla siyang pumasok. "Wala ka bang sasakyan na dala?"

"I asked someone to follow you. Pinaalis ko na siya kanina pa."

Napamaang ako. When did she do that?

"Since you left ," tila nababasa niya ang nasa isipan ko.

"And I did not notice?"

Nagkibit balikat siya.

I combed my hair in frustration. I started the engine. From the rear-view I saw Takeshi's lifeless body on the ground. Cold. Abandoned. Si Shana naman ay tahimik lang nakaupo sa gilid ko. I don't know kung saan kami pupunta dahil magulo ang isipan ko. Everything is a mess.

"So how's life?"

Hindi ako kumibo. I should be the one asking her that.

"You've changed."

My brows creased when she said that. Did I?

"Hindi ka na palamura and you're not that bossy."

"Are we going to pretend that nothing happened?" seryosong tanong ko sa kanya. "I planned everything for years just to kill that man Shana."

"I killed him. Ano pa ba ang gusto mo?"

No. It's not like that. I planned everything,and it's frustrating to think that my hard work may have been for nothing. Humigpit ang hawak ko sa steering wheel.

"I know, but...I just think that you don't have to taint your hands," nilingon ko siya. Nakatingin lang siya sa bintana. I wanted to reach her because she looked so lonely in that view. "Are you serious with your revenge plan?"

"Hmmm."

"Are you going to kill me?"

Nilingon niya ako. Her face is blank this time. "Are you guilty?"

Am I? Yes, I am guilty. I'm guilty of not protecting her. I'm guilty of wasting those years not looking for her. I was about to answer her when our car suddenly became unstable. We almost hit a tree if I wasn't fast enough to avoid it. I stepped on the car's brakes to bring us to a halt.

Isinuklay ko ang kamay sa buhok ko. Lumabas ako to check the car outside. No scratches, just tire problem. Bumalik ako sa loob. "Sorry, I think we're having a flat tire."

"Okay," balewalang sagot niya saka iginala ang paningin. "Where are we?"

Napatingin ako sa paligid. It's almost nine in the evening. I looked at my GPS map. "Still Laguna."

"Fine."

She really looked unbothered. Tatawag na sana ako nang marinig kong tumunog ang tiyan niya. Pinigil ko ang tawa.

"Eat while I call for help."

Tinuro ko ang compartment. May burger sa loob. Binili iyon kanina ni Julia dahil ayaw daw itong payagan ng manager na kumain ng burgers. Kinuha iyon ni Shana. She's eating it slowly. Itinuloy ko naman ang pagtawag sa secretary ko.
