Ryan's Point Of View

I was sat at my father's desk reviewing finances of the pack. God I hated paperwork, it was boring and dire. My father contacted me a couple of minutes ago, he advised that he would be returning to the pack at the end of the week and would bring Elisha with him when he traveled. He knew that in these uncertain times it was unwise for our future Queen to travel on her own.

I had spent years missing Elisha but for some reason over the last few weeks I hadn't felt the need to be near her as I once did. I missed her company but it wasn't a compulsive need that I once had.

You know the reason for that idiot. Reginald whispered in my mind.

Reggie? I replied back.

Nothing. No reply back, no retort, no words of comfort or advise, he disconnected himself from me again. I groaned at him silence. Despite his lack of communication, I could still feel him present, I could still tap into my wolf abilities. It confused me, I could find no explanation for his behaviour. I thought he would be excited to see his mate Elisha, I thought it would at least stir his presence when my father announced she would be here at the end of the week, but there was nothing.

I was snapped out of my thoughts when my beautiful mother walked through the door. She was dressed impeccably, her blonde locks were intricately twisted into knots that formed a bun at the side of her head. Her blue eyes were twinkling. She smiled as she saw that I was completing my duties. I always had this innate need to please my mother, I never wanted to see her tears or disappointment. Especially towards me.

When I told her the news about my mate Elisha, I remember her joyful laugh and happinesses that I had found my other half. I picked her up swinging her around by the waist at my joy. She always knew that I harboured a crush on Elisha and when she found out she said that goddess had blessed me with someone worthy. My mother felt that the union of our packs would solidly and with Elisha's influence the Kingdom would prosper.

"Good afternoon my son" My mother chipped, she had the biggest smile on her face. I always admired her resilience.

"Hello Mum, sorry I missed breakfast I have just been trying to finish off the finances." I replied.

"Of course my boy. You are such a hard little worker." She said as she stroked my cheek. "How is everything today?"

"Father called and said that he will be returning at the end of the week with Elisha. The finance reports are almost completed." I replied.

"Oh you make me so proud. I am so excited for Elisha's arrival, I am preparing your engagement party which should be at the beginning of the week. We should announce your mating as soon as possible!" Mum said as she sunk herself into one of the chairs opposite my father's desk.

"Everything is ready for father's return and the Princess quarters are set up for Elisha. The maids have already stocked her room with everything she may need."

"Excellent. Oh while I'm here is there any news on the sick wolves my sweet boy?" Mother asked.

"No unfortunately not, they are both deathly sick. The doctor has no idea what is plaguing them. There status is still the same, I haven't informed father yet he seemed busy while at Nightingale. I could tell something was bothering him but he wouldn't say over the phone. He told me he would discuss this with me when he is back. He said it was rather pressing." I replied as I pursed my lips at my father's elusive response.

"Oh" Mother said. I could hear how disheartened she was at my father's absence. "Well I'm sure he'll fill you in when he gets here. Did he say why he was going there?" She asked, her gaze was wondering across the room.
