Tsubaki's pov
Things seemed to be tense after we settled in, since we could hear the growls from the zombies outside. We covered the windows and got the place barricaded, so we would be safe for the night. I stared out of the window as it had hit night time in the area of West City, I couldn't help but worry about Trunks. He's my everything and the fact that the two us were separated in a time where any one of us could get killed, really hurt my heart. Mostly, everyone was asleep while I had stayed up. I couldn't sleep knowing that Trunks and Mai were somewhere out there, possibly in trouble. At this moment, I was just hoping those two were somewhere safe. The horde of zombies that are basically surrounding the streets below us, prove that we will need to find a different way out of here. I'm going to have to come up with a plan, especially if I want to keep those twins alive. "Can't sleep?" I turned my head over to the corner, where I spotted Daniel. He was leaned up against the wall, crossing his arms as he looked at me. "No." I said, looking back out at the view. My eyes trailed down to the ground, watching the horse that was slowly passing by the building. "Neither can I." He sighed, silence filled the air as I heard the light breathing of Asher who was sleeping nearby. I volunteered to keep watch since everyone else needed sleep, we were going to be moving out early in the morning. "I.. I'm worried about my mother." He started, "She.. She's very weak. She gets sick very easily." I stayed silent, only nodding at his words. To be honest, I had nothing against Daniel but I just wanted to be left alone to think. "Look... I know you probably don't want to talk to me about anything." He said, making me sigh. I never took my eyes away from the window, at the moment, I was focused on finding a way for us to get from here to get Daniel to his family so that I can find Mai and Trunks and we can stop this damn virus.
"You're right. I don't. I don't want to talk about anything right now. What I want to do is focus on finding a way for us to get to the lab and get you to your family. I want to find a way to stop this damn virus from getting to more people. So please.. Please, just stop talking. Go sleep with your sisters." I snapped, I let out a sigh and leaned against the window will staring outside. Daniel let out a sigh and without saying anything else, before walking away from me. I continued standing at the window, staring down at the ground where zombies were roaming around. I let out a heavy sigh, as I tore my eyes away from the zombies and looked up at the sky. Please, Trunks.. Please be okay. You too, Mai. I just hope the two of you are alright.
Elsewhere in West City....
Trunks and Mai were running as fast they could, with Mai carrying a young child. Trunks pulled Mai's hand as the two of them sucked around a corner and into a store. The store was partially ransacked, just as Trunks got them inside, he quickly hid himself, Mai and the kid. They hid behind one of the larger shelves towards the middle of the store, Trunks put a finger to his lips, telling Mai and the child to stay quiet. He peeked from around the shelf, watching as the horde passed by the store in a hurry. None of the zombies realizing that the three of them had gone into this store, Trunks kept his eyes forward and let out a sigh of relief as the horde finally passed the store and moved onto another block.
"Are they gone?" Mai whispered, holding the child close. The young child in her arms was a small little boy, who was about five years old. Mai and Trunks had come across the family of the young boy earlier, but things went awry when that horde showed up. He was not only separated from his mother, but he watched some other survivor get attacked. When Mai saw him standing alone, she was reminded of Oliver and immediately picked him up. The young boy bore a strong resemblance to his father, who had short black hair and brown eyes. "Trunks, are they gone?" Mai asked again, getting Trunks to finally look at her. "Yes. But we should be careful. They could come back this way." The three of them heard a loud clatter at the back of the store, causing the three of them to freeze completely. Mai and Trunks looked to one another, becoming serious as they realized they were not in the store alone. "What was that?" The little boy asked, "We're not sure, Yori. But Trunks is gonna go see what it is, while you and I stay here. Right, Trunks?" Mai said, "Right. I'll go check it out. Mai, if I don't come back in five minutes, I need you and Yori to get out of here and find a safe place to go." Trunks said, they heard more stuff in the back of the store falling over which frightened Yori. He clung to Mai tightly, hiding his face in her chest as Trunks grabbed the scariest thing nearby and ran quickly to the back of the store. He dove behind a large shelf, keeping his ears and eyes peeled as he pinpointed where the noises were coming from. He quietly moved forward, holding up the sharp stick that he had grabbed, ready to attack whatever it was. He moved closer to the sound, keeping light on his feet as to not make a sound. He peeked around the shelf, spotting what he thought to be a zombie but wasn't.
"Hey!!" Trunks jumped out, making the person turn around quickly. "Hey!! Don't shoot!! I'm alive!!" Trunks' eyes widened, as he lowered the stick slightly. Mai came running over as she heard the screaming coming from the person. "Trunks!! What happened?" She came to a complete halt, when her eyes landed on someone, who was standing just a few feet in front of Trunks. Standing in front of Trunks was a young brunette, she had big blue eyes which were wide and filled with fear. Her clothes were disheveled, a bit bloodied but she looked healthy.
"Who are you?"
