I brought Bruno his dinner, not wanting to interrupt him watching his show, but before I left he started talking to me. "You know, I don't think your friend was joking when she said not to sleep on the couch." Bruno didn't even look at me when he said it.
That just confirmed in my mind that he was the one to move me and my things the night before. "Thank you. I mean it."
"Of course."
And that was life for the next month and a half. I would go to work, bring back food for Bruno, and he would tell me about his telenovelas. Some of them were really crazy, but it wasn't the only thing he would watch. He got really into game shows and would watch sports occasionally.
We've started watching it together, him slowly getting more comfortable with my presence. He's helped me cook, teaching me how to make some of his favourite foods.
Rosemary told me that Vincent, who became a practicing witch a little before the shooting star event, was researching ways to send Bruno back home.
One night, before second semester exams and summer break, Bruno and I were finishing up one of his game show episodes. "Well, I should get ready for bed. I'm probably going to spend tomorrow getting exams made for the end of the year." I said, standing with a yawn.
"Wait do you... have to?" He asked, shifting on his spot on the couch. "I mean, tomorrow's Sunday, you can sleep in still. Are you really that passionate about this job to waste your whole weekend away?"
"I really love teaching! I've always loved helping kids, but... I had another passion before that." I said, hesitating before ending my sentence. "That's all in the past now, though. I love my job and I love all of the students who's lives I get to impact."
I forced a smile as I turned to look at him. As I turned around, he spoke up. "What... what was your real passion?" I smiled while looking down, even though he couldn't see.
I sat down before turning to look at him once more. "Believe it or not, but once upon a time I was a trained cosmetologist. I was truly in love with the practice, I put all of my time and energy into it. I got my license in that before I got my teaching license. It was my dream career since I was young, I even planned out the salon I was going to open down to the littlest of details." My smile soon faded and I sat down. "But I stopped after my mother passed. She was my biggest supporter, but I felt guilty using the money she left me and the money she had spent on my college tuition, to just lose my teaching degree. So, I became a teacher! Just like she used to be."
"But... wouldn't giving up your c-cosmetology license be wasting her money as well?" He asked me, folding his hands over themselves multiple times.
I patted his worried hands with a small, reassuring smile. "I'm an internet beautician. I use social media as a portfolio and people message me for appointments. Of course, the only people I get nowadays are old students, or my current students. I don't mind, I love being able to see them again, they're always so kind to me and keep me from going broke!" I say the last part with a light laugh.
"Hmm."
"Hmm?"
"Maybe... maybe one day... I could be a customer?" He asked me. I nodded and he smiled. "Do you want to do my hair right now? I'm starting to get bored of it."
I grabbed his hand and led him into the bathroom. "I don't know if you noticed, but I reinstalled the sink after Rose left to accommodate my clients. Now it's a part time hand-wash, part time shampoo bowl!" I said, excitedly.
I draped him and used my clarifying shampoo and decided to do a conditioning treatment. I left him under my hood dryer for about 10-15 minutes and got him something to drink while he was under to keep him hydrated. Then, after I rinsed all of the product out, I grabbed my diffuser attachment and started to blow-dry his hair.
I admired how curly and bouncy it was when I was finished, I hardly noticed the faint blush on his cheeks. "How does it feel to be pampered? Pretty amazing, right?" I sighed. I felt extremely happy while doing what I loved. The truth was, I haven't had many clients scheduled recently. With all of the DIY hacks going around, people weren't contacting me much, so I was grateful that Bruno even asked for me to do this in the first place.
Bruno looked into my eyes through the mirror. "Do you ever get pampered, Y/n?" He asked as I put the final touches on his hair, deciding to keep it natural and only put in some light product. However, his question stopped me.
"N-no... I suppose I don't. Not anymore, anyway." I replied honestly, finally removing my hands and his cape. He stood up, giving me a surprising hug and then standing stalk still. "Brun-"
"Sorry! U-um... I mean... thank-thank you! My hair looks fantastic." He quickly said, sharply turning to look into the mirror. "Mi familia would think that you have a gift or something. I think Pepa would love you if you did this to her hair." He said, putting his fingers in it gently, as to not ruin the work I did. "And Julieta too. Maybe even Félix..." He trailed off, starting to mumble to himself.
"Bruno!" I barely yelled, trying to get his attention. "You're welcome. Anything for a friend." I smiled and put a hand on his shoulder. "And... thank you... for letting me do this again. I really enjoyed it."
"I... I could tell." He smiled back to me.
