"How was school, my babies?"

Soft, soothing, and full of love voice welcomed little Wangji, entering with his small bag on his back and a lunch bag swinging back and forth, followed by Xichen, his brother a year older than him.

"Mommy!" Little Wangji ran after hearing her voice, lips full of smile as he embrace her with his little arms.

She giggled, hugging his son back, "Oh my, did my little Wangji miss me so much?" she utters, rubbing his back as Lan Zhan giggles an answer.

"Not fair! Only Wangji gets a hug?" Xichen pouted, striding his way in front of his mother.

She looked up at her eldest son, opening her arms to accept his bundle of joy, "Sorry, sorry. come here, hug mommy too," she says, smiling wide.

Xichen's pout replaced a warm smile as he approach his mother, engulfed in her soft hug. Sweet scent of a mother omega radiating. It makes them calm, soothing, and safe. They purred into her hold.

It was all pleasant until the ball of hug became empty, the one part of the ball slowly vanishing into thin air. "My babies, Xichen, Wangji..." is the echoing sound from the void.

"Don't worry, I will be always by your side..." The sound slowly vanished into thin air, before it totally disappear it spoke once again, "Wangji..."

"Wangji!"

Lan Zhan woke up, streamlines of tears is visible on his cheeks. Yet still groggy he looked up at the source of the sound, his brother is standing beside his bed, probably waking him up. His eyes darted beside his bed, it's six in the morning, September first. No wonder he woke up later than his usual waking time.

His brother forced a smile, Xichen knew what his brother is feeling but refuse to let his emotions be known. "Wake up, Wangji. Uncle will be at the dining room around seven, you don't want to hear an earful from him right?" he reminds him.

Wangji silently sighed, sitting up from his bed. He really doesn't;t want to hear anything from his great of an uncle right now, and so he stood from his bed. "I will follow suit, gege," he says, voice low. Maybe for people who can hear Lan Zhan right now, they'll find it normal, but Xichen, who knew his brother more than anyone, knew his brother is irritated beyond compare. Xichen sighed, that's his cue to step aside and not further engage him into talking, "'kay, I'll wait downstairs," he says before leaving Lan Zhan.

.

It's around six-thirty in the morning that the brothers are already sitting at the long table in their dining room, bowls and platters of food set on the table by the servants at the mansion.

The dining room is silent, the two never bothered to hold their utensils before an elder of the house is with them. That's what they are thought by their uncle.

The door of the dining opened, and the sound of steps of expensive leather shoes entered. It was awfully quiet, the expression of the two is unimaginably cold and expressionless.

"Morning," the elder greeted, picking up the spoon and fork, which the brothers' cue to hold theirs as well. The two bowed out of respect, didn't open their mouth any further to not anger the elder that is sitting at the center.

"It's your father's death anniversary today, whatever engagement you have after your studies, cancel them and go straight home, we'll have dinner," he stated, picking up the toast and putting them on his plate.

Lan Xichen gritted his teeth, lowered his head as he tried to compose himself. he wants to punch the face of his uncle right out the window. Either way, he exhaled, releasing the anger that's any moment will cloud his reasons.

"It's also mother's death anniversary, uncle," He mutters, trying to not sound irritated.

Lan Qiren scoffs as he bites on his toast, "Yeah, cancel going there too, your father's grave is the priority," is what he uttered.

Lan Zhan's reasons are gradually fading, he just wants to slap his uncle's mouth away as of this moment. despite his emotionless face, his fists are clenched under the table, putting all his anger on them. If not for his brother who noticed it cupped his hand, he would've done something that will ruin his surname.

"That's why we said we said their graves should be beside each other, uncle," he says, trying to be polite but coming out to be sarcastic in the end.

The elder scoffs again, "And to ruin the family grave? Not a chance!" he clicked his tongue, "I don't know why your father even pick up an unknown omega with us not knowing her background. Doesn't he know he's tainting the family name by bringing a lowly omega with a lowly background?" he taunted.

The anger fuming the two brothers slowly building, and fuck it, they just want to slap his mouth out of him right now, but the 'respect your elders' that their mother taught them is what holds their reason. And so they swallowed their anger, praying that that'll hold their anger until they are dismissed out of the dining room.

"But mom is a family, uncle," Xichen answered, looking down at his food he have not even touched. The food looks unappetizing anymore. Lan Zhan also doesn't even touch any part of the dining as he feels like throwing up at how his uncle opens his mouth.

Lan Qiren continued eating as if he hadn't heard any of what Lan Xichen said, after finishing his food he grabbed the napkin on the table and wiped his lips. "You better eat your food, make sure to come home after school," he says.

Lan Xichen cannot take it anymore, being ignored that way makes his blood boil even more. He weakly clicked his tongue and his hands unconsciously slammed on the table causing the elder to be shocked, yet that didn't even affect Lan Zhan who kept quiet the whole time.

"Where did you learn to disrespect your elder?!" Lan Qiren raised his voice, looking up at his eldest nephew.

Lan Xichen faked a smile, bowing to his uncle, "I'm full, uncle, please excuse me," he utters. Lan Zhan did the same thing, not giving his uncle a single glance.

"You- you! I'm still talking to you!--" before they can hear him any further they already left the dining room, door slamming close.

Lan Xichen's brows furrowed, both their hands are balled into a fist, anger burning inside them.

Long silence fills in the both of them until they arrived at the garage and eventually entered Lan Xichen's car since Lan Zhan can't drive when his emotions are not stable enough.

"Brother, let's visit dad's grave after we get mom's favorite then we can head to mom's grave," Lan Zhan said, breaking the silence.

Xichen looked his way, his grip on the steering wheel tighten, "Yeah," he answers, nodding nonetheless before starting the car.

A/N: Yey. I'm back after more than a month of break. I was stuck in putting my thoughts together, lmao. So anyways, the updates will be inconsistent for now since I'm already in my second semester and there will be lots to think of, like research and the like. I'm third-year college, by the way, so yeah.

By the way, I'm thinking of doing a writing commission (fanfics only), maybe not now but soon. I need funds for school purposes and probably save money for a new laptop since my laptop is already slowly giving up on me. I hope you can help me with that.

Thank you so much for reading and encouraging me all the time. It's my happiness to have you read my stories, I'm entertained by all the comments (funny, educational, or reactions) that's why I'm trying to read them all. Well anyways, hope to see you soon on my next updates, please be patient with me. love lots! ❤❤❤
