The dinner with the whole family is a deafening silence. No one dares to speak and only spoons and forks clanging with the plates resonates in the large dining room. They are too afraid to start a conversation that might end up turning into chaos. Jiang Cheng is still mad at his mother, Ziyuan still doesn't like Wei Ying's presence with them, Fengmian will just burst at his wife if she dares to speak ill of the omega, and Yanli who remained silent because she knew the tension in the dining. The dinner feels like ages to be finished, and when it did everyone dismissed to their own bedroom, except for Fengmian who went straight to his office.

Wei Ying sighed in relief after settling down at his swivel chair at his study corner, his books, notes, pens, pencils are laid on the table. He stares at his things for a second, at least in his room he can breathe freely without anything restraining him. After a mere second of staring down at his desk, he flinched when he remembered something. Right, he and Lan Zhan have a virtual meeting tonight since they were not able to discuss their project after going to the hospital. 

And so he hurriedly went to his bathroom, made a quick shower. He came back to his desk just as his phone rang, that must be Lan Zhan. he picked up his phone and he was right, the caller ID of the alpha is flashing on his screen. He panicked as he looked down at his clothes, does wearing his most comfy clothes good enough to show the alpha? Should he change into something more decent? Through his panicking self, his fingers absentmindedly answered the call. 

"Wei Ying?" the phone suddenly spoke making him jump in surprise and almost drop his phone. 

Wei Ying sheepishly pulled up his phone as a fresh-looking alpha, wearing an eyeglass flashed before his eyes. Damn.... handsome...

"H-hi?" he awkwardly answered, smiling sheepishly at Lan Zhan who looks like he's confused as to why he is kind of awkward.

The alpha tilted his head, "Are you ready? Should we start?" he asked through the phone.

The omega nodded vigorously as he immediately sat his ass down his swivel chair and opened his laptop. "We're using google docs, right? Gimme the link," he replies, setting his phone on his phone stand. 

The alpha just hums as an answer, after some time, he received the link and immediately went to their document, and they started.

"...In this part we should put consider the grade level for the appropriate approach they needed..." Lan Zhan kept explaining until he paused when he saw Wei Ying yawned involuntarily, his eyes almost going into a half-lidded.

A tinge struck into Lan Zhan while watching the omega become sleepy on the other screen, "You must be tired, I think we should sleep," he suggested, stopping and saving their project.

Wei Ying immediately jolted from his sleepy state, "Oh no, I'm sorry. I can still stay up!" he frantically answered, fixing his seat.

"But you're already sleepy, Wei Ying," he utters, looking fondly at the face of the omega on the screen. The pastel red color of his loose sweatshirt plus his sleepy face makes him look cute. No wonder he's sleepy, his clothes are too comfy to the omega's liking.

Wei Ying pouted, head resting to his desk as he grumbles, "Aw, please let's continue. I promise I will tell you when I feel sleepy, hm?" he pleaded, puppy eyeing at the alpha.

Lan Zhan had to look away from that, that was uncalled for. If he's already cute, he's even cuter when he does that. His heart raced, it's a good thing that his burning red ears aren't obvious on the screen. "You sure?" he asked.

The omega nods, "yes!" he beamed.

He sighed, k fine, he just can't say no if he sees cute things (specifically a cute snake omega). "Okay, then let's continue," he utters.

Their session continued but Lan Zhan purposely asks him random questions unrelated to their project to grant the omega's wish to stay awake. And it unexpectedly worked, the omega was less sleepy and answers every question the alpha asks. Their talk even got through the document their working on, asking questions playfully thru the google document and erasing them afterward. 

In the end, they talked about more unrelated things than their project. Until they realized it was already 3:30 am that they decided to call it a night and have a rest. Zhan sets his phone on the bed, facing the camera on him as he makes himself comfy. 

"Good night, Lan Zhan. See you tomorrow," he mutters, yawning after.

A small smile of fondness crept the alpha's face, though the omega didn't notice from his half-lidded eyes. "Good night, Wei Ying... Sweetdfhgjbvkjdbj"

The last words from Lan Zhan became inaudible as all his senses went to rest. "Hm," is the only answer he gave before his body shut down.

Lan Zhan watches the omega fondly from the other screen, Wei Ying is already passed out and sleeping peacefully. After memorizing every physical feature of him, he also decided to cut the call and also have his sleep.

The next morning, Lan Zhan came to school a little exhausted. Even his over-observant brother caught him yawning countless times. It was Xichen's first time seeing the younger look so tired. He smiled at his brother, "What made you stay late that you lack sleep?" he asked the other. 

Lan Zhan yawned for the nth time before opening his mouth to answer, "Project."

Xichen's brows furrowed, project? Wangji is not the type to let any project destroy his sleeping schedule, he always does them when he has time in the day. "But you don't even do it late at night," he utters, curious as to why his brother suddenly acting strangely. 

"With a pair, it's the only available time," he answered, voice monotone as he yawned for another time.

Xichen nods, though he's still not convinced he knew he can't get an answer or his other questions. As his eyes wander as they walk, someone caught his attention. The love of his life is walking five meters away from him and his signature frown is knitted on his forehead, the uncanny beauty of the beta is radiating and brightening up his morning. Damn, Xichen wants to get near him to tease him more but he looks like he's scolding the man beside him, and so he stopped himself. But another thing caught his attention. Wei Ying just ignores the beta's nagging and just yawns lazily into his hands. 

Then it clicked, he grinned after realizing. Well, it can't be helped.
