"You came home late. Causing trouble just because I'm not here?" it was stern, full of judgment as he speak. He just got home and he welcomes them with his judging words. How many times did they hear the older ask them that? It's infuriating but chose to endure.

The two clench their jaws, fists hiddenly clenching tight to suppress whatever they wanted to let out right this instant.

"No, uncle. The club activity took overtime," Xichen answered, a little white lie to satisfy the old man. He will never find out about what they did before going home anyway.

Qiren nods, convinced with his reason, "I see, then join me for dinner later I will discuss matters about the business," he declares before turning his back on them.

The two looked at each other, they are not really hungry since Lan Zhan ate dinner at Jiang's residence while Xichen ate while feeding Cheng, and if they don't eat while at the dining table with their uncle, he'll just scold them again.

"Uhm... We ate before we got home, uncle since the club activities are draining," Xichen lied once again, another white lie doesn't hurt anyway.

Qiren turns to face them, brow arching, "You did?" he asked before nodding, "Well, we just have to talk about it now then," he declares then gesture to a maid to bring them tea in the living room, the maid obliged right away and Qiren turns to the direction of the living room.

The two silently followed behind him, glancing at each other, conversing with their eyes as to what will their uncle tell them about this business stuff, and silently wishing its not something that will ruin what they have now.

Arriving in the living room, the two sat down beside each other while Qiren sat on a single sofa. Tea was poured into the cups in front of them minutes after.

"How's your practice teaching, Xichen?" their uncle asked, grabbing his teacup and taking a small sip before bringing them back down again.

Xichen looked at his uncle as politely as he can be (even though he was cursing him inside his head), "It was fine, uncle," he answered dryly.

The older nods, "Good. You'll be graduating in a few months from now, I 'm expecting that you'll be at the top of your year once again," he utters.

Xichen's jaw clenched, hearing their uncle's expectation is kind of making him want to vomit. He aces everything even if no one tells him, that's for sure, but when he hears Qiren spout about his expectations for him, it feels like he's just been following the older's expectations and not his own goal. Hence, he remained silent.

"How about you, Wangji?" Qiren turns his head to the younger.

Lan Zhan looked at him, neutrally facing the older, "It was fine, uncle." he answered. Too fed up with all this.

"Good to know," he replies, "Well, about the business. I'll be going on a business trip for two weeks in France to finish off all my duties before I hand your father's company to you, Xichen," he paused, getting a sip from his tea once again before he continued talking, "There will be a business party two days after that, better attend," he announced.

The two's brows slightly frown but immediately relaxes when Qiren look their way. They did not opt to answer and wait for the next words coming from the older's mouth, judging the way he speaks there's something more he will add.

"And, I'll let my secretary send the folder of profiles of our business partner's kid. I'm expecting you to look at them and be able to pick a bride."

It was a bomb. As if Lan Xichen felt another boulder weigh his back. His eyes are wide, ready to complain. His uncle was strict with their studies, always reminding them to set aside love and concentrate on their studies first, but why is he suddenly trying to get him with someone?
