Lan Zhan sat beside Wei Ying the whole time, staring at his omega, peacefully sleeping yet still so gorgeous in his eyes. Still, the phrase that Jiang Cheng left before going out is making him confused and perplexed as to what could it mean. 

As he mull over it, the door suddenly banged open followed by a loud, "What happened to Wei Ying?!" and a "Shh" from outside of the room that made them shut up. Embarrassed from being called out, they shut the door. 

There appeared two people, one familiar and the other looks like in his middle age. The two stopped from their frantic selves when they saw a face they didn't expect to be there. 

"Mr. Lan?" the female asked confusedly, brows furrowed. She doesn't know why is the enigmatic Mr. treasurer is here with her brother. She also noticed that the alpha's hand is placed above the omega's hand, which made her more confused. What are things she doesn't know about her brother?

Lan Zhan frantically stood from his seat after recovering from the shock, his hands swiftly retracting and placed behind him. Then it hit him, is this what the beta meant? He doesn't know why but he suddenly felt nervous, his heart beating wildly as he bows his head. "U-uhm... Hello, I'm Lan Wangji," he introduced himself, his voice stuttering. For a second, he thought, he should've taken Jiang Cheng's advice a while ago. He didn't expect that he'll be faced with the omega's family this soon. 

"Lan? You mean the son of Qingheng-Jun?" The older male asked, hearing a familiar surname from the past, an old friend but already not in this world. He looked at Yanli, he has already forgotten that it was not Jiang Cheng who they saw inside but an alpha.

Yanli shrugged, "I don't know, but he's A'Xian's classmate and the school treasurer alongside A'Xian," she answered.

"Pleased to meet you, sir!" Lan Zhan politely greeted, still on his ninety-degree bow. 

"Oh, you can lift your head now Mr. Lan!" she said, cueing the alpha to lift his head, he looked at the two's way, trying to avoid the older's eyes. He can feel some tension radiating from the older as if judging him from head to toe. 

"By the way, he's our father, Jiang Fengmian," she introduced, smiling at him to loosen the building tension in the room. 

Fengmian squinted his eyes, he didn't notice him holding Wei Ying's hand but he can feel that there was something between the two. "Mr. Lan, hm..." he hummed approaching the bed.

The alpha instinctively gulps down the lump of nervousness from his throat. He's fucked, if he's been informed earlier, would he be this nervous? Or maybe it's just the same since the family of the omega he's courting is here. He didn't expect a meeting the family this soon in their stage, he didn't even ready a gift to impress Wei Ying's family and met them unexpectedly in this state, he's still haggard from all the events that happened earlier!

The older immediately picked up, "Are you courting my son?" he asked straightforwardly, his brows pinching.

Lan Zhan gulped, gathering all his courage before meeting the eyes of the older, he should tell the truth and be upfront with his true feelings, if he can't impress them with gifts then he'll just impress them with his honest feeling, "Yes, sir!" he answers with full of confidence. 

Fengmian is not even a bit impressed, his brows furrowed even deeper, "Why doesn't I know it?" he asked, then turn to his daughter, "Do you know about this?" he asked her. 

She tilted her head, "No, if you didn't ask I wouldn't have known," she answered innocently.

The confidence he built a while ago crumbled down, now fuck, his nervousness climbing into his head again. 

The female omega then faces the alpha, her arms crossing over her chest, "Oh, right, Mr. Lan, why didn't you tell me you were courting my brother? We always meet when we have student council meetings," she complained. 

Lan Zhan gulped who knows how many times already. He thought the older omega knows already from the way he and Wei Ying stuck together during those times. But he thought wrong, there's no way he can bring back the time now. He just bowed, "I'm sorry, Ms. Jiang. I thought I can tell formally when Wei Ying is ready," he apologized. 

"But you should've told us! We are his family, you should've asked for our permission first before courting him," she sulked. 

Fengmian nods, agreeing with her, "Well, that's true. But since it already happened, what is left is for you to answer our questions," he declares before sitting down on the sofa beside the bed.

The alpha gulps again, he's smart but when he's being hot-seated like this he doesn't know if he's not going to stutter when he answers. 

"Why are you courting my son?" is the first thing he asked. 

The alpha raised his head, hiding his nervousness behind the little confidence he have, "Because, I love him, sir," he answered sternly, with no hesitation. 

Fengmian nods, but is still, he's not yet convinced, "Are you sure that is your true feelings?" he asked again, a bit intimidating. 

The alpha nods without hesitation, "Yes, sir!" he replies. 

"Hm, are you sure you can take care of him for the rest of your lives?" He questioned, Yanli just eyed her father in disbelief, "Isn't that too soon, dad?" she whispered to her dad. He just sighs, "If that's not his intention, then he doesn't deserve my son," he whispers at her. She thinks for a second and nodded upon realizing. Right, if his intention is just to date him then eventually, A'Xian will get hurt in the end.

He nods. No hesitation and no pause. He's confident that he's the only person he will love for the rest of their lives, he's his fated after all. With his chin up, he answers a little loud, "Yes, sir!"

The older squinted his eyes at him once again, as if he's looking inside his soul to search for any impurities and lies from his answer, "I don't trust your words yet, but I hope you can show your sincerity and truthfulness of your words," he utters, "Next time, show up at our house, got that?" he added, a little threatening at the end but Lan Zhan is not a bit intimidated by it.

Lan Zhan nods, a small smile springs from his lips, then he bows once again to pay his respects, "Yes, sir. Thank you, I will be forever grateful for your acceptance," he says politely. 

Just as he raised his head, the door of the room opens.

"Oh, you're already here," Jiang Cheng remarked, who is holding a bag of medicines. 

The two Jiangs look in Wanyin's way, their brows furrowed, "You have explaining to do," Yanli sulkily said. 

Jiang Cheng scratches the back of his neck and then heaves a long sigh, "Fine, I know that Wangji is courting Wei Ying. Happy?" he answers. 

They both squinted their eyes at him, "And you didn't tell us!?" they said in disbelief.

"It's up to Wei Ying, okay? Let them take their own steps, plus, he's still courting, they are not there yet!" he scowls. 

"Still!" the two rebuts in unison.

Jiang Cheng ignores them and approached the alpha, he extends his arms to give him the medicine he bought. "Here, I hope you were ready when you met them. They are far more protective of Wei Ying," he says to the alpha while the two are still sulking behind him. 

Lan Zhan just smiles as he accepts the bag, "It's fine... oh right about what happened to Wei Ying, I haven't told them yet-" he utters and is about to get the two's attention again when Jiang Cheng stopped him. 

"They'll freak out for sure, so I'll tell them," the beta volunteered. 

Lan Zhan nods, "Thanks."
