Wei Ying and Jiang Cheng came home with smiles on their faces.

The fluttering feeling of Wei Ying's heart never left even after Lan Zhan was out of his sight. The image of the alpha left in his mind was like a broken record, keeps on replaying. It's too vivid as if he's still feeling the loving stares from the alpha, the fond smile the alpha is giving him whenever he steals a glance.

While Jiang Cheng feels his whole body float as if he's on cloud nine. Who wouldn't? He just had the best time of his life, he got a chance to treat Wen Qing into a coffee, the goddess of the medical department (aside from his sister who is also titled as one of the goddesses in their department). She was ethereal when you look at her closer, her delicate pale skin, her rosy cheeks, and her long black hair waves to every move of the breeze. Despite the feeling of a burning-like feeling at the pit of his stomach, it didn't matter when he just experienced having coffee with his crush.

But as they say, you can't be happy in a day without associating pain.

Upon opening the front door of the mansion, the smile on the two's faces faded. The first person to welcome them is none other than his mother. A deep frown buried into her forehead, arms crossed over her chest, and her teeth gritted.

They don't know what they did wrong that the elder is in front of them, looking at them as if any moment she'll devour them. They both swallowed what was once their happiness and their head immediately lowered.

"On the living room. Now." A stern word from her. Sending shivers down their spine.

they slightly nod, obeying her in an instant and making their way to the living room. They sat down as Yu Ziyuan stood in front of them.

"Jiang Cheng." she uttered. It was stern, full of authority, Wanyin immediately feeling the coldness from her voice, it must be something about him taking the path to education. Even though he is already in his third year, she still doesn't give up on the matter.

"I expect something big from you. I already let you go your way for the past years, isn't it enough for your rebelling against me? You already had your three years on that filthy course you'd taken. I've had enough watching you go down that path with some..." he looked beside Jiang Cheng, looking at him from head to toe with disgust in her eyes, "...I've planned all the best for you and he just have to ruin it by influencing you!"

"Mom, n-no. He di--" he protested but Ziyuan glared at him.

"That! You learned talking back because of him!" she exclaimed.

The beta immediately sink into his seat, his lips sealed tight, and his head lowered.

"You will drop out of that course this instant and shift to business! I've had enough of this!" She yelled.

Wei Ying is used to it, he's used to being blamed by his auntie for everything about Jiang Cheng. But hearing her disregard Jiang Cheng's feelings and voice made his ears tingle, his heart squeezed in anger. As his blood boiled, his mouth opened.

He clicked his tongue, gaining the elder's and Jiang Cheng's attention. He was able to gather all his courage. He knows he'll regret taking this all out but he can't help hearing those things from her mouth.

"Auntie."

It was stern, Ziyuan's frown deepen. He can feel her anger just the way her eyes bore into him. Jiang Cheng even looked at him shocked and with disbelief and a mix of fear for his brother.

"I know this is DISRESPECTFUL" He starts, emphasizing the word disrespectful to make his point, "I'm grateful to you big time. When I lost my parent, even if you're against adopting me, you didn't throw me out. Hearing and feeling from you that I do not belong here even after years is fine with me. I'm fine with it because I know my place," he paused and looked at Jiang Cheng who Jiang Cheng answered with a worried look, slightly shaking his head to stop his brother.

Wei Ying just smiled faintly and brought back his attention to the woman who is waiting for the next words he will spout. "But hearing you invalidate your own son's feeling is something that I can't swallow..."

"...Jiang Cheng is best when he's doing what he wanted. You're telling him that he's wasting his time in the course he had chosen for himself? He didn't choose the course because I influenced him, he chose it for himself!"

"...Do you think it will make him grow if he just blindly accepted what you think is 'best' for him? He will be able to do it because he's smart, that's a given. But when it's not by heart, he'd just get swallowed whole, he'll regret it his life and lose it one day."

Ziyuan flinched, something inside her pricked her heart. Her mind started picturing the possible thing that may happen, reflecting on what the omega said. Then her mind went flashing back to where he first had his son, looking down at a tiny hand reaching for her face, eggshells gradually falling on her lap as she cradle the little bundle of joy that just came out of his egg. All she wished was happiness for his son; good things, and the best things for him. And she thought, for her son to have the best things in the world is for her to dictate what is 'best' for his son. To push him into things that she thinks will make him better. She didn't realize until now; now that she's confronted not other than the person she despises to see, that he's pushing his son into the edge. She didn't think she's been ruining his son's happiness. She's too blinded by the 'best' that she defines it to be.

Her shoulders droop, the furrow on her brows gradually disappearing and a tear brimming from her eyes. Her pride just got trampled on with truth, her ego raging in anger but she can't even refute the truth that the omega spouted. She sighs, this omega really does are something. She didn't think that a mere omega will open her eyes for her.

Wei Ying didn't wait for another word from Ziyuan, he grabbed his brother's wrist, hoisted him up from his seat, and eventually drag him to the second floor. Jiang Cheng was too stunned to even utter a word and let himself get dragged. The weight on his chest lightens upon hearing his brother's courage.

Upon standing in front of his room, he looked up at Wei Ying a smile painted on his face. "Thank you..." he utters with a sigh of relief.

Wei Ying smiles back, letting his wrist go, and ruffles the beta's head. "Brothers help each other," he declared before leaving the beta.

The beta chuckles as he finds it sappy, either way, he watched the omega walk to his own room and disappear from his sight. He feels relieved. If he had the courage Wei Ying have, he could've made his brother's life a little better.
