You stood in your room at the compound, getting ready for bed. There was a gentle knock on a door before it opened. You looked over, and frowned when you saw who it was that entered. Maria looked guilty, her face full of regret. She was one of the few people you let in, yet she broke your trust. When you became a part of SHIELD, Maria helped you at all times, you even started to gain feelings for her. She was one person with you, gentle and sweet, while she became someone else around others.

But when you joined, Natasha Romanoff was on a long mission, and not many days ago, she came back. The first thing you witnessed when you were about to greet her and maybe try and get to know her, you saw her hug Maria tightly before they kissed. And not long before that, Maria had slept with you.

"What do you want, Hill?" you asked in a very harsh tone. "If you're here to tell me that whatever we had is over, I don't want to hear it."

"Y/N, I'm sorry. I never thought she would come back." Maria said and you scoffed, shaking your head at her.

"Oh come on Maria. She's the Black Widow, she knows how to handle herself of course she would come back!" you almost shouted. Maria gave you a sad look before she looked down at her feet. Who thought that Maria would feel guilty about something? "You still had hope, I get it but, I am not going to be some distraction for you when your girlfriend isn't here."

"I should've fought for you." Maria said as she looked up, you looking over at her.

"Maria, don't." you shook your head at her.

"Y/N." she said and walked over to you, holding your hand. You made no effort in removing it, looking into Maria's crystal blue eyes. "I love you. I'm in love with you."

"You broke my heart." you said and she looked at you. "I'm sorry, I—I can't."

Maria looked at you, slowly lifting her other hand to cup your cheek. You were hesitant at first but slowly leaned into her touch. She slowly leaned her head forward so her forehead was pressed against yours.

"I'm sorry." she whispered, caressing your cheek with her fingers. You sniffled quietly, leaning back.

"You should go. Before Natasha figures out where you are." you said and let go of her hand.
