I get way too much inspiration from Shadowhunters IM SORRYYou were currently helping Carol train Morgan. The three of you decided to get a small break so you went to the nearest Chinese restaurant and ate a bit. When you were finished, you headed towards the exit, bumping into Maria on the way. Morgan ran past the two of you, giggling at the same time.
"Hey." she said quietly, looking at you up and down.
"Hey." you said back, smiling a bit. You had been crushing on Maria for a while, seeing her made your stomach fill with butterflies. Carol appeared beside you.
"I don't think we've actually met. I'm Carol Danvers." Carol said with a smile and took her hand forward. Maria had an awkward smile on her face as she turned to face you.
"Are you taking her on a boat ride?" Maria asked you. Earlier that day you had asked Maria if she wanted to come with you to a boat ride but she had declined, saying that she was busy with paperwork.
"What? No, no, of course not. Carol and I are just friends." you said. "I was helping her train Morgan and we stopped to get a bite to eat–"
"Stop talking." Carol whispered beside you as she pulled her blonde hair behind her shoulders.
"That's it." you said as you placed a hand on your hip. Maria looked at the two of you for a brief moment.
"I will see you later." she said and walked past you. You pursed your lips before walking outside, Carol looking between the two of you.
She saw how Maria sat herself down by a table with her papers. Carol looked over to the door and saw that it closed. Smiling a bit, she walked over to Maria, leaning by the wall when she got there.
"What is it? Y/N left." Maria said, not taking her eyes off the papers.
"May I?" she questioned and nodded her head towards the chair. Maria hesitated a moment before she pulled the chair out with her foot. Carol smiled and sat herself down on it.
"So what is it?" Maria asked and Carol chuckled lightly.
"It's about Y/N." Carol said and Maria tilted her head to the side. "I want to know if you're really interested in her or you're just playing hard to get."
"Hey, I'm not playing anything." Maria said in a stern tone. Carol raised an eyebrow at the brunette and shook her head. "And I'm sorry, how is this any of your business?"
"Y/N's my friend. She's been there for me when I've needed her." Carol said and placed her hands on the table, leaning forward a bit.
"That's awesome. But if you don't mind, I'm working on my paperwork that needs to be finished soon." Maria said and her eyes went down to the papers in front of her.
"Who was she?" Carol asked and Maria looked up at Carol with a questioning look. "The girl who broke your heart, who was she?"
"She's not Natasha, if that's what you're asking." Maria said and Carol's eyes widened as a small smile appeared on her face.
"Wait...you and Nat?" Carol hesitatingly asked.
"True story. It was fun, nothing more." Maria said and Carol chuckled and tilted her head to the side.
"But someone hurt you, someone who meant a lot." Carol said and Maria sighed. "We have all been there. Me, Y/N. It doesn't mean you should stop trying."
"Who do you think you are? Coming in here and talking to me about heartbreak. You don't know anything about me." Maria said in a harsh and stern tone, Carol nodding her head.
"You're right, but I know Y/N." Carol said. "And she's smart, sweet, caring–"
"You think I don't know that? Maybe you have it all figured out. I've hurt people before and I'm not going to do it again." Maria said and Carol bit her bottom lip.
"Hurting people before sucks. But it's a hell of a lot better than never taking a chance at all." Carol said and Maria looked down. "Nice to meet you Maria."
Carol stood up and walked out of the restaurant, leaving Maria there alone. The brunette watched the blonde until she was out of the restaurant.
