au where chaeyoung and jungkook are exes who still have a lot of love for one another.
If there was any way to describe their relationship, it would be that they stood in murky territory.
They were friends before they were lovers and to be frank, there wasn't necessarily anything wrong in their relationship. In her mind, it truly was simply the right person in the wrong time. Often, the pair would call each other even after the break up, reminiscing over what she considered a beautiful relationship. Growing up as neighbours, the pair did everything together—travelling to school, class, extra curriculars and often, she'd have dinner at his house when her family was away on business trips. It's the final basketball match and as always, she is sitting front row cheering him on. Before the game, he runs to her.
"Date me. If I make a shot in this game, then you should give me one too."
She spent the rest of the game on edge, nerves flowing through her body like a waterfall. Did she want him to score? Wait—he likes me?
The game ends and he fails to score a single point, but the pit in her stomach suddenly made her realise that she did, indeed, like him. He runs to the locker room, obviously ashamed at his performance but she follows him, reaching for his arm and kissing him hard.
"I'm free tomorrow night."
From their, their friendship turned into something more and she loved every minute of it. The summer after high school was the best few months of her life—breakfast dates, movies, day trips to the beach and even her mother approved on him.
But then, reality crept in.
When he joined his agency, Park Chaeyoung went to Japan for her studies and between the distance and their hectic schedules, it seemed as though their connection was faded. Even though her feelings had not.
They decided one day, a week before their one year anniversary that they're better off at friends.
Via skype call.
They both cried until the sunset, and neither dared to end the call.
By morning, they were friends again.
Even with the official title, her heart continued to long for him.

With all the changes in his life there was one thing that remained constant.
His feelings for her.
He remembers the first time he'd met her, when her family moved in next door on her first year of high school. She smiles brightly at him and somehow, he couldn't help but think that she was the most beautiful girl in the world. He'd watch her from his bedroom window, sometimes she'd sit on the windowsill and play her guitar, other times, the curtains would be closed but he could see her shadow from the other side, dancing like that taylor swift music video. His love for that wasn't that superficial of course—one day, his parents had gotten into a loud argument. A few hours later, she sent him a text and asked him to accompany her to the convenience store because "she was a girl and he should be a gentleman." He needed to take his mind off things away and thus agreed, thinking that he was helping her. Instead, she buys him cakes and drinks and ramyeon and tells him she's always available if he needs a shoulder to cry on. He does. They both cry that night as she listens to him passionately, holding her hand out to him.
"I'll always be here for you, Jungkook."
That was how he knew that she was the one for him.
Even when they broke up, the pair maintained a close friendship. He'd always call her when he had break between practice and shows and she'd often send him gifts—sometimes flowers but often chocolates and food whenever there was a big event or occasion. On her birthday, they'd zoomed and blew candles together even with the distance. His friends told him that he was being stupid.
He sure was stupid in love.
Three years pass and he's picking her up from the airport and seeing her through a phone lens is insufficient to express the true beauty she oozed of. Her hair had gotten longer, brighter and her figure was simply perfect. She had changed so much, while also not changing at all, he couldn't quite describe it.
"So how long will you be back for?" He questions her as they drive back to her family home, knowing that her father had mentioned his desire to see her take over the business some day in New York.
"Well, that's the thing," she tells him, "... I think I'll be staying here for good. I got an offer from an IT firm here and well—the contracts being negotiated still, but I think I'll take it."
That night, he wants to ask her whether they could try again, since the distance was no longer there but somehow, he doesn't find the courage in him to do so.

The group go out for dinner and drinks a few days after she arrives and it feels a lot like old times. She can feel the way he's looking at her and she admits that it's difficult for her not to overthink it.
"We're so glad you're back," Jennie Kim comments before pointing her finger at him, "... grumpy over here was constantly updating us about your life in Japan so I guess it partly feels as though you never left through."
She turns her head and sees the way his face turns complete pink, a reddish tint on his ears.
Later on in the night, Jeon Jungkook leaves early because he has a late night interview to attend. Kim Taehyung turns to her and asks.
"Are you sure you both are just friends? Friends don't look at each other like that."
She herself, doesn't really know.
"I guess it's because we've been friends for so long," she notifies him, "... so everything is good even though we've broken up."
"But would you consider getting back together?"
"I've never thought of it, to be honest," she responds.
Liar!

Jeon Jungkook learns that her company building in less than five minutes away from his agency hence he takes the opportunity to invite drink her back home. It's 9pm and he's waiting outside, watching as she brings out a bouquet of flowers and puts it in the back seat before taking the passenger side beside him.
"Sorry I'm late, did you wait long?" She questions.
He shakes his head, "... who did you get those from?"
"Oh," she smiles sheepishly, "... one of the guys in my team bought it for me."
There's something uneasy in the pit of his stomach.
"What's the occasion?" He tries his best not to sound jealous, but it obviously fails because she lets out a chuckle.
"No reason," she shrugs her shoulders, "... how was your day?"
Better before I saw those flowers!
"Good."
"Jungkook," she interrupts the silence, "... last night after you left, our friends asked me whether you'd consider us getting back together."
"What did you say?" He asks her curiously.
"Well, have you ever considered it?"
He nods.
A lot.
"Me too," she tells him, "... I wonder if the timing would be better now I'm in Seoul. But then again—you're an international superstar and Korea's beloved bachelor."
"The timing is better now," he doesn't hesitate to respond, "... my feelings haven't gone anywhere."
