Neither would budge.
The room was tense, distancing themselves from the meltdown that was about to take place. Mikey, in particular, taking a stunned Kazutora's hand and leaving the room.
The two friends stood apart from one another, just staring.
Everything was not okay.
Nothing felt okay.
How could anything between them feel okay?
Baji felt guilt and Chifuyu felt betrayed.
What the hell were either of them thinking?
Baji and Chifuyu were overjoyed to see one another, but the world was silent now. Everyone left in the room understood what was taking place.
Everyone besides Baji and Chifuyu.
Being reckless teens meant they had no sense of propriety, so, the laundry was laid out in front of everyone.
Chifuyu's tears quickly turned to anger, "What the hell, Baji-san?!"
Baji just stared at his best friend, sharp eyes narrowed, "I've already heard this twice today, I don't need to hear it from you too."
Chifuyu's anger morphed into rage, "The hell did you say?!" He took a step closer, brows furrowed, tears streaming down his cheeks, "Do you know how much time I spent at your grave?! Huh?!"
Baji's frown simply deepened, "And I'm sorry for that, but I couldn't tell you I was alive."
Chifuyu nearly took a step back in shock, "Why?! Don't I matter? Everything we've been through?! I trust you!"
Baji was always like this, always taking everything on on his own. He never relied on Chifuyu!
Baji snarled and took a step forward, "Then trust me! Believe me when I say I wish I could have told you!" Baji was yelling now, unable to keep that control he normally wore like a second skin. Not in front of a crying Chifuyu, not when he could see his heart like this.
Baji hurt him, he knew that.
But there was nothing he could have done about it. How could he have know that Chifuyu already knew about him? And it wasn't like he could just leave.
No, he followed your orders in order to protect the people he loved.
Loved. Like Chifuyu.
Chifuyu bit his lip to keep back the hurtful things his anger wanted him to say, his heart knowing he'd regret the words immediately.
"Trust you?" Chifuyu whispered, taking another step forward, now only five feet from Baji, "Why didn't you trust me?!" His voice was as hoarse as Baji's now, tears choking him up, "Why didn't you trust me?!"
"I do-"
"YOU DON'T!" Chifuyu yelled, "If you trusted me you would have told me about Kisaki! About Valhalla!"
Baji wasn't about to hear this! Hear these LIES! There was no one he trusted like Chifuyu because there was no one alive who believed in him like Chifuyu, no one who trusted him like Chifuyu!
"I didn't need to because you believe in me!"
Chifuyu gasped, eyes wide once more.
"That's right," Baji pleaded, "You believe in me. You knew what I was doing, you knew I'd never betray you, Chifuyu."
The blond wanted his anger to leave him at Baji's earnest remark, but it wasn't that easy.
