Mikey had always had a strong intuition, bordering on supernatural. He felt things others had no clue about.
An example? He knew there was something about Takemitchy that was very different from others. Well, besides you. You and Takemitchy were linked somehow. He didn't yet understand it, but he knew he would. He'd learn why you both seemed so strange to him.
If he trusted anything about himself it was his intuition.
Too bad he was feeling so confused right now. He was so overwhelmed he shut down, unable to process the fact that you told him Baji was still alive. He dare not hope his childhood friend was alive.
Baji was the rowdy kid in his grandfather's dojo who constantly hounded him for spars. He was always so angry when Mikey would brush off his challenges. That anger would satisfy Mikey in a twisted way.
He was the first person who wasn't intimidated by Mikey's prodigal skills in karate. Others would get jealous or cower away from Mikey's gaze, intimidated. But not Baji, it just fired him up and that's why they were friends in the first place.
Mikey remembered when they even gave each other foreign names, Michael and Edward...
Mikey. That was his name ever since he met Emma.
Emma called Baji Edward too, something Baji didn't appreciate, still he sighed and allowed it because it was Emma.
Mikey had ordered you to take him to Baji and Kazutora, right then and there in the outdoor café, and you had agreed.
He still could feel in his gut that you were looking out for him, that this wasn't some big betrayal.
No this had to be a miracle. Baji was alive!!
How? When? What the hell?!
And Kazutora was there too?
His stomach clenched then relaxed, letting the momentary anger pass.
Mikey thought back on the night he had decided he had forgiven Kazutora. The night he remembered that Kazutora was his friend and he was hurt too. Mikey acknowledged that everything that happened that night... everything that had taken place was a tragic accident.
His brother died, yes, but he wasn't murdered. Kazutora killed him, but he didn't mean too.
Looking back on just how unhinged he was... Kazutora was suffering just as much as Mikey was.
Ken-chin reminded Mikey of something important about his brother that night too.
Shinichiro would have been upset with Mikey for holding a grudge against his friend.
No, Mikey had forgiven Kazutora. What had happened had happened and it shouldn't change their friendship. Not when what had happened had been when both Mikey and Kazutora were even younger kids.
Besides Mikey must have still loved Kazutora even two years ago when Mikey took the stand in order to plead for Kazutora's character. It had worked, giving him a reduced sentence.
The cold wind blew through Mikey's natural blond hair as he followed you to your home, both of your bikes roaring down the road. The two of you were quick to find a rhythm to your riding, swiftly weaving in and out of traffic, from between and behind cars, the drivers honking when you'd purposely swerve a hair too close to their vehicles.
Mikey grinned softly when he heard your laughter, feeling a little more himself again. Riding his brother's bike never failed to make him feel better and you were helping a little too.
