"In this case, you base your verb from the 'of phrase'. For example, if the sentence says, one half of the potatoes, and then the options would be, is and are rotten...So where's the of phrase?"

Kaleb furrowed his brows at me.

We were at the eatery where he and Pete had always frequent.

The same eatery Pete and I eat out for the first time together when Kaleb bailed out on as the last minute and the same eatery Pete and I agreed to be friends.

Funny how only about after a couple of months of visiting the place did I learn about its name being Tagpuan which translates to 'meeting place' and looking at how it's always pack with people from different age group, I can say that it was aptly named.

The next time I went there with both Pete and Kaleb, I learned about how they both were already friends with the owner and the staff and had since then reserved a place for the three of us for when he hang out which usually happens every weekend since I became 'officially' friends with them.

I shook my head.

Looking back, I find it really funny how Pete and I decided to be friends.

Damn was it so dramatic!

"How would I know!?!"

That shriek from Kaleb took me out of my trance.

I was teaching him English as he said he was failing and it's almost the exam period and he said he didn't want to re enroll the class.

"Oh, right, sorry, it's the phrase with of on it."

I told him.

"Oh, okay, so that's why it's called an of phrase."

I made a face at Pete who was sitting beside me as he snickered at his best friend sitting across us that I had to turn myself over to the side so Kaleb and I could compare the notes.

I wondered why he even chose to sit with me when he made it clear that he didn't need any tutorials.

"Yeah."

I beamed at Kaleb right after I gave Pete a warning look.

He just shrugged at me.

"Alright, so, where's the of phrase?"

I went back to teaching Kaleb.

"Of the potatoes?"

He looked so torn but I smiled when he answered.

"Good. Now, how many potatoes?"

He made a face at me and threw the notes on the the table.

"How should I know?"

I had to slap Pete who snickered beside me.

Again, he just shrugged, but this time, he took a sip of his complementary drink of sugar cane juice.

"No, I mean, is it singular or plural?"

I asked Kaleb again who looked some more confused.

"What's that stuff again?"

I smiled as I shook my head at Kaleb.

We had been going over through the basics since about a couple of weeks ago but he seemed to always forget the rule.
