He makes Bondita sit down and brings a glass of water for her. Bondita gulps the water in one go. Anirudh looks at her with a sigh and asks," Bondita tum yeh kya kar rahi thi? Mujhse dur kyu jaa rahi thi?"
Bondita looks away trying to hide her pain from him. Anirudh looks at her pained expression and gently holds her chin and makes her look at his face.
Bondita looks down and says slowly, "Patibabu woh Thakumaa aayi thi..." She tells him what all Thakumaa instructed her to follow in her menses. How should she behave, how she should isolate herself from rest of the family, how she should stay within four walls in these days, and how she should stay away from him!
Anirudh's nose flares up in anger as he hears Thakumaa's instructions. He forwards his hand to hold Bondita but Bondita takes a few steps away from him looking extremely guilty. She slowly utters," Pati babu mujhe haath mat lagaiye, mai abhi ashuddh hu!"
Anirudh takes a deep breath, gulping all his anger, looking at the fragile figure in front of him. He gently holds her shoulder and makes her sit firm on the bed. He tightens his hold as Bondita wriggles in his arms.
He looks at her deep in the eyes and says, his voice firm and deep," Tum Ashuddh nhi ho! Mahavari ashuddh nahi hai." Bondita interupts him and says," Par Thakumaa..."
Anirudh says cutting her in between, "Kya tumhare saye se kisi ka kuch bura ho sakta hai bhala? Mahavari toh bhagwaan ki diya tohfa hai! Yeh koi shraap nhi balki vardaan hai. Aurat ko janani kehne ka sabse bada saboot hai yeh. Bhagwaan ne tumhe aur baki sari aurton ko shakti di ki woh kisi ko jeevan de, aur jo dusro ko jeevan de woh kisi ke liye apshaguni ya musibat ho sakta hai kya bhala?"
Bondita looks down in guilt as realisation overpowers her senses. Anirudh gently holds her hand and says," Bondita tum toh itni padhi likhi ho, itni samajhdar ho, jaanti ho mahavari kya hota hai, uska karan kya hota hai, fir tum esa kese soch sakti ho bhala?"
Bondita looks up at him and says, her heart filled with guilt, "Mujhe maaf kar dijiye pati babu. Mere maa baba ne kabhi mujhse esi baatein nhi ki, aur fir Thakumaa se yeh sab suna toh mujhe bohot bura laga aur mai bhavuk bhi ho gayi thi."
Anirudh smiles at Bondita and asks softly, "Bhuk lagi hogi na tumhe? Subah se joh kuch khaya nhi hai?" Before Bondita could answer her stomach grumbles loudly making him chuckle.
He brings a plate full of food and gives it to her. She takes a morsel of the food and offers it first to him, she asks softly, "Aapne kiya nashta?"
Anirudh shakes his head in denial making Bondita frown. But at the same moment his stomach also grumbles loudly making Bondita break into fits of laughter. They both dive into the food chuckling.
Anirudh keeps the plate aside as Bondita's eyes fall on the big bag kept on the bedside table. "Pati babu aap yeh sab kya laye hai? Dikhaiya mujhe!" She says trying to peek in the bag.
