Summary: You had never paid much attention to the boys in school before, especially not Bae Jinyoung. But when you changed desks, that wasn't the only change in your daily school life, and now you couldn't get the tall boy out of your mind.

Characters: Bae Jinyoung x reader

-----

You had never paid this much attention to him before.

Bae Jinyoung had been in your class all year long, but you had never really been like the other girls in your class over the tall boy.

Everyone would gush over his little but handsome face, and his dancing ability, but you had never paid notice to either, your nose normally too buried in a book and another world.

But this all changed when your teacher for the new term decided to do a desk swap, asking you all to draw a number out of a bowl, and then go to the table with the corresponding digits on it.

And that was how you ended up sitting behind the boy everyone in your class was infatuated with.

Of course three of the girls hurried to ask you to swap with them, but Mr Cho was quick to refute it. You weren't bothered either way, pulling out your battered copy of Pride and Prejudice and settling into the old fashioned words, finding more comfort in them than the environment around you.

High school was always predictable.

Every day the cliques would gather in their hordes, and repeat the same actions as they did the day before, the bullies finding new prey, the sporty ones jostling everyone around in the hallways as they shouted out to team players, the popular ones would have a ring of people in awe surrounding them, and the academics would be discussing the upcoming pop quiz with interest. You never fitted into any of those groups; you had never bothered to anyway. You weren't dumb or intelligent, pretty or plain, popular or a loner, and whilst you didn't play any sports, you weren't the type to find excuses to go to the nurse during gym either.

You were the completely average student, enduring the daily grind of secondary education. You expected to get through each day with little fuss, getting your work done, socialising to the point that was necessary, and doing your part that was expected of a well rounded student. You didn't stand out in any particular way, and you liked that, not wanting to change your own well rehearsed routine.

That changed with the new seating arrangements though.

It hadn't been instant, your first reaction took an entire week, but it was enough to unsettle you. The problem was it wasn't anything out of the ordinary, your class was preparing for a mini test, Mr Cho instructing those in the desks in the front to slip the exam questions down the rows. And so, since Jinyoung sat in front of you, when it came to his turn, he shifted around to pass you the sheets, his hand lightly grazing yours. In that moment you had looked up at him, ready to shoot him a grateful smile, but when he touched you, you froze, feeling as if he zapped you.

It was foolish really, but as you stared back at him unmoving, this only caused him to blush and divert his eyes, all but throwing the papers onto your table and spinning around so much he knocked his knee on the side of his desk.

The noise of his small yelp was enough to shake your stupor, and you jumped into motion, handing the papers back and trying to cool yourself down from the incident.

What had it even been in that moment that unsettled you? Had it been the shape of his warm almond orbs? The way he had pressed his lips together awkwardly? The feeling of his touch? The more you tried to decipher, the warmer your skin felt and soon your teacher was uttering instructions you completely missed.
