He needed to protect you.
But he also loved you.
He was torn on what to do, logically knowing your safety was paramount, but his heart ached at the very thought of going on in this world without you at his side.
Daniel loved everything there was to you, and being bitten by a werewolf didn't change that either. Of course, it changed how he was around you, with the sudden disappearances or declining meeting up when he had been certain in the morning that he had nothing else planned. But you were still as vivacious as ever. You didn't question him when he gave you weakly strung together excuses, and supported him when he needed you the most. Whilst it bothered him that you were rather complacent to his new lifestyle adaptations, he knew deep down that you were just being understanding and patient with him. He had a lot to thank you for over these past five months as he grew accustomed to his new life.
It hadn't been how he expected turning into a werewolf to be, not that he had ever envisioned ever being one. Daniel had read and watched enough entertainment that had given him some foolish idea that once bitten he'd transform every full moon into a hairy beast and be highly out of control, attacking people if he wasn't locked away.
And well, he definitely did have more body hair now. The moon also affected his mood and sleep patterns. But overall when a full moon actually arrived, he was still himself. No need to lock him up in chains, or hide out in the forest so he could find a ridge to howl at the moon upon. He hadn't attacked anyone, except for the barista who had recently put far too much sugar in his coffee.
And by attack, he sternly requested a new one be made.
It wasn't entirely easy though, because he did turn into a werewolf still. It happened out of nowhere, the urge to run would overwhelm his mind in the middle of a lecture, his legs soon twitching and making it impossible to sit still. By the time the lecture was over, he was out of that door and running across the field, uncaring of what plans he had next. All he knew was he had to get to some place less public before the change occurred.
The running helped clear his mind, but it also made his legs morph from their already muscular human shape into something more canine, and the need to be on all fours was strong. He didn't change into a majestic wolf - that sadly was a let down. It was hard to appreciate what he actually looked like when turned, but he could still recognise himself and that helped Daniel not completely hate the beast within.
As the months went by though, it became more problematic for him to become a werewolf and still be around you. Each change he noticed something new about himself. At first, he looked much like a puppy, bushy tailed and bright eyed. He was even slightly embarrassed to admit he once stole a Frisbee from a dog in the park when a change happened whilst out exercising. His first couple of months as a werewolf were juvenile. As his body grew accustomed to the regular changes though, his coat became wirier and longer. His snout grew, and his eyes deepened. And now he felt his canine teeth protruded far too dangerously. It was odd to feel so in control of who he was when he looked so beastly.
But even with the control, he didn't feel it was safe around you now. It was why he needed to break up with you, in case the times when he was making out with you and got a little too eager actually came into fruition. He had felt the ache in his tailbone during the last session, his tail had wanted to come out and show just how excited he was getting. Not only was he embarrassed, but the idea that he had been more focused on his tail than other things coming out saddened him.
