You mean the world to me

A single, agonising week had passed since Shiro's disappearance.

Team Voltron spent countless opportunities searching for the paladin, scouring the depths of the universe in order to find their leader.

However, Keith would go above and beyond in their searches, spending longer searching for the man and even going off on his own to get extra time.

As a result, the team hardly ever saw Keith except for the early hours in the morning when he would come back for an hour or so to markdown routes and then fly back out.

Shiro's disappearance was also harrowing on the teenage girl. Being prominent in Keith's life meant that she had also known the paladin for quite a while.

Of course, she didn't share that brotherly bond Keith and Shiro had. But Shiro was still a prominent brotherly figure in her life, the mild-mannered man helped her get into the Garrison, stay out of trouble (sometimes) and always knew the right thing to say.

Now he was gone.

It took a toll on her because the nature of his disappearance was chilling. Not even his helmet was left behind. It begged the question, how had Shiro disappeared and why in a manner such as this?

Every inch of her needed to know how this man had just vanished. It didn't make sense and she wants sure if it would ever make sense.

A breathy sigh escaped her lips as she sat, holed up in her room at some ridiculous time in the night.

Since the discovery, Keith was even more sullen and sharp with other people. Patience absolutely abysmal and conversation with anyone other than a sharp sentence to Y/N seemed to be near impossible at this stage.

As well as that, the boy looked exhausted.

Eyes strained and far off from staring at holographic maps and screens of the translated text, his voice was raspy and occasionally shaky after a particularly fruitless search.

So far, Y/N was increasingly worried. She was frustrated with how he would just shut everyone out in favour of squashing down everything to focus on looking for Shiro.

So, here she was, waiting for Keith to come back whilst throwing up Kevin before catching him with a soft thump in her palm.

Suddenly, an onslaught of pounding knocks began to ring in her ears, the sudden force startled her before she slid open the door hurriedly.

Her heart raced as a dishevelled-looking Keith was revealed. His lips were cracked and bitten,  jacket hung loosely off his shoulders whilst a mess of hair sat atop his head, unbrushed and run-through.

Y/N could barely find the words before she was taken aback by a bone-cracking hug that caused her to stumble back before steadying herself to focus on the confining hold.

Silence.

The grip slackened ever so slightly whilst Keith buried his head in Y/N's neck, skinny arms wrapped around her neck. However, this embrace felt so desperate and deprived that it begged the question.

What exactly was going on?

Her heart swelled once she felt tears soak her shirt, she could feel his fluttering eyelashes on her shirt and just about hear his slow, trembling breaths of what seemed to be relief filled with grief.

Instinctively, Y/N grazed her hands against Keith's torso and onto his back. Comforting rubs caused the paladin to only hold on tighter, his quiet cries were now more audible and all the more worrying.

Cupping the back of his head in one hand, you spoke softly and slowly. "Keith, I'm right here. Just let it all out".

Those few words were all Keith needed to hear, the sentence came crashing down with the overwhelming relief in his body that someone was still there for him.

And so he did let it all out.

Shameless sobs of anguish spilt from his lips bringing along hiccups and feverish trembles. Keith's cold, hard demeanour had already eroded away to reveal a sobbing shell of his former sullen self.

Her fingers tangled within Keith's raven locks before stroking the back of his neck dotingly, murmuring reassuring words to the poor boy.

Gasping breaths filled the air as Keith spluttered, trying to suppress his sobs forcefully before giving up and allowing another tidal wave of relief and despair to wash over him.

Y/N continued rubbing softly at Keith's back. The wordless sobbing session had been reduced to sniffles and gasping hiccups.

"Keith?" Y/N called out mildly, not expecting him to answer.

"...Yeah". His voice was rough and raspy as it faltered.

"Do you, maybe wanna talk about it?"

He mumbled something incoherent and unlatched his arms from around Y/N's neck to sit on the floor before motioning for Y/N to do the same.

Y/N sat slowly and barely made a move when Keith laid his head on her lap and moved her hands to his hair, a silent asking for it to be run through.

"First my Dad, then Shiro and then you disappeared and I thought I lost you"

"I keep losing the people I need most"

His voice cracked and his breath hitched, and a trembling lip broke his fierce demeanour.

Keith swallowed thickly, pale fingers twirling together as he looked up and stared at Y/N, jewel-Esque eyes shining with tears.

"And I think I deserve it?"

Y/N was quick to retort, her usually boisterous voice serene, faltering every so often.

"Keith, you have done nothing wrong"

The girl sighed as Keith stared, wide-eyed at her saddened disposition.

"You mean so much, too much to me for you to just blame yourself for circumstances that had nothing to do with you and certainly not your fault!"

"I get Shiro is missing but what would you have done better, what could you have done to prevent this?!"

Keith stared quiet, tranquil yet tyrannous tears poured down his cheeks and gathered underneath his chin.

"I...i don't know Y/N and it is so frustrating! I don't know how or why Shiro went missing I don't know where he is. I don't know anything!"

He sat up and gripped at his head, breaths quickening and hands assuming their previous shaky stance.

Y/N felt a few tears slip down her own cheeks, her stomach swirling with concern and her head filled with the weight of the disappearance.

"It's gonna be alright Keith-".

"And if it's not?"

She sighed quietly.

"I'll do whatever I can to help because we will find him, whatever it takes. Alright?"

He was quiet before mumbling something of an 'okay' before resting his head on her shoulder.

His crystal-Esque eyes began to slide down to a close till they slammed shut, breaths slowing steadily.

Keith's lips parted to speak as he whispered.

"Thank you".

Though it was quiet and soaked with drowsiness the sincerity was there. Y/N's cheeks heated with glee as she ran a few fingers through the jet-black mess, and smiled softly.

"Of course, you searched all over for me when I got lost on that planet. It's the least I could do".

Although it seemed he wasn't listening, the paladin adorned a sweet simper on his otherwise asleep features as he clutched her pinkie with his.

He succumbed to the exhaustion and finally whispered in the serenity.

"You mean the world to me".
