Dream rubbed his eyes, taking a sip from his water bottle. He felt his skin starting to dry up a bit too much, so he hesitantly spilled some water on his hands and let it go wherever it was too dry.

Dream hated being a hybrid at times like this, where he had to constantly have water on him and he couldn't go to the nether without snow, fire resistance or something along those lines. He despised being an axolotl sometimes. Especially now that his friends know.

Dream.. He had loved water, once upon a time. He wouldn't go a day without jumping in the lake near where he lived and swimming around. It had never been a chore to keep himself entirely hydrated- even when the lake froze over and he was stuck in there for two days, he still loved it.

Dream would go straight for the water whenever they went to the beach, only complaining about the sand getting in his eyes or in between his toes again.

He joined the swimming team the second he could in school, and he loved it. He missed those days, when he could go swimming for hours without a care in the world. Now though, Dream struggled. Dream covered up small, unnecessary water holes that were too close together.

He avoided going in boats to travel in the overworld, using the Nether instead. Dream stayed inside when it rained, and he refused to take baths. Dream could handle showers, at least enough that he could operate, but not baths.

That didn't matter, though. Dream decided as he continued to walk along the prime path. His head hurt a bit but he ignored it, just a small headache. He hadn't been keeping track of his water consumption, so it could be that as well.

It wasn't a big deal, it was a cold day and he could go about a day without a drop of water before he died. He could last about six hours in the Nether without fire res potions or snow.

Dream tensed when he felt an arm around him, snapping him away from the depths of his mind. "You seem down, thinking back to.. Then?" Sapnap asked quietly. The ravenette was one of only two he told about what happened, and even then, Dream hadn't said everything.

"Not.. exactly." He muttered, leaning his head on Sapnap's. The ravenette hummed, walking alongside Dream. "Have you had enough water?" Dream shrugged.

The two stayed quiet for a few minutes, comfortable with just staying by each other's side. Eventually, Sapnap spoke up again. "I need to go, Karl wanted some help on the next episode of Tales of the SMP. Call if you need me?" Dream smiled a bit, nodding.

"Have fun with your fiance." Sapnap flushed bright red, saying a quick goodbye as he left. Dream watched him leave and sighed, feeling alone. He would go mess around with George, go see if he could help Bad and Skeppy out, follow Puffy around.. But he just, didn't feel like it.

He spent the next few hours just walking around, steering away from where he heard talking. Dream felt exhausted, he didn't know why- his legs didn't hurt and he felt like he could still walk for a long time, so he didn't think it was that. He sat down anyway.

It could help. In the back of his mind, he knew he needed to get in some water, the small bit from the bottle wasn't enough. He didn't want to though. If he could get home, he could have a shower and-

Dream got distracted by an ant walking in front of him. Huh? When could ants float?? Wait- When did he fall onto the floor? The blonde pushed himself up, only to fall back down. He needed the water that bad already, huh? How long had he been walking for?

Dream grabbed his bottle, spilling whatever was left on himself. It took a bit, but it soaked in and he managed to walk just for a bit.

He didn't understand exactly how it all worked, he just knew that if he didn't have enough water his body started to kind of.. Shut down. It would stop the less important things or what didn't seem needed in order to reach water.

It would move to more important things until he couldn't move his limbs, and then he'd lose the ability to breathe and the last bits of his body would stop working. He had only gotten to the breathing point once, after the.. Incident.

Dream had been refusing to touch even the slightest bit of water for a day, too scared of reliving it. He had been forced to chug water before he died from it. Downsides of being an Axolotl hybrid, he supposes.

Dream tried to remember that one command, the one that he used when he had to in order to get a water bottle without doing anything other than speaking. Fuck- was it /summon? /obtain? /take? /make?? /give? Just as he figured it out, he felt himself fall into a small lake of water.

Dream's eyes widened, he hadn't- he hadn't done this. He thrashed around, tears blurring his vision and mixing in with the water. Logically, Dream could just stand up and be out of the water. Even if that weren't the case, he knew how to swim perfectly fine. But he couldn't.

Dream couldn't think, he couldn't do anything but react. Dream screamed as he saw flashes of red in the water. What was red? It- It couldn't be anything he was wearing. It wasn't fabric, it wasn't solid- it couldn't be! Blood, his brain supplied.

But he wasn't hurt. He wasn't. He knew he wasn't! If he was, it would hurt! He wasn't hurt so why was it red?! He saw parts of a body. Not- not just a body, not any body. But.. hers. Dream couldn't get it through his head that it wasn't real.

After all, his mother had died years ago. There was no way her body was here, and it certainly wasn't still bleeding. The blonde sobbed as the walls around him kept changing to the white he knew too well, the colour of the water kept changing to the red- everything. He wanted it to stop, he couldn't be there again!

Tommy watched in pure horror as Dream screamed and cried. Wilbur had brought him to water and pushed him in, knowing for sure it wouldn't hurt or be too deep. "Wil- what do we-?" Tommy stammered, tears threatening to form in his eyes.

Even when they were roleplaying, Tommy never heard Dream scream. Even when he was legitimately nearly killed, he didn't scream. Even when he was bound to bed for an entire month due to how badly he hurt himself, he didn't scream. So why was water so bad?..

"Get-...Get Sapnap, Tommy.." Wilbur spoke just loud enough for Tommy to hear, just about frozen in place. He didn't bother going into the direct messages, just telling Sapnap to show up to their coords asap in the general chat.

Sapnap replied with 'omw'. Just a minute later, he was there. "What's up?" The ravenette looked at the two, taking a moment before his mind processed the screaming and crying. Sapnap ran into the small lake type thing, pulling Dream out.

"Dream! Hey, it's me. Can you hear me?" Sapnap spoke relatively loudly, knowing that if Dream was going through that, it was what the man needed. Dream briefly looked towards him, showing that he could hear. Thank fuck, he had a way of helping the blonde in that case.

"You're on the Dream SMP right now, Dream. You're 22, you're safe, you're with me right now. Sapnap." Sapnap explained, pausing for a second to see if Dream had any reaction.

When he saw nothing, he kept going. "Tommy and Wilbur are here as well, two of your friends. You're on land, you're on the SMP, you're safe. It's okay." Dream blinked slowly, he wasn't in the water anymore? But- but it took hours to be lifted out of the water last time..

He saw Sapnap's bandana, and that's all he needed to cling onto the other. "He's not here.." Sapnap whispered, holding Dream close. Dream held him tighter, shaking and taking deep breaths.

"Can you explain to me what happened?" Sapnap looked at Wilbur, who was watching them with a mixture of guilt, regret and fondness in his eyes. "I- well, he was on the path, drying up and.. I thought it'd be easier if I just carried him here and put him in the water.." Wilbur explained, rubbing the back of his neck.

Sapnap just nodded, running a hand through Dream's soaking wet hair. "If this hasn't said anything, don't- don't do that again, please. Pouring water on him is okay but, he can't be put in water by someone else."

Wilbur said he understood, Tommy nodding in agreement. "Go grab some towels, please." Sapnap hummed. He was being nicer than he would've been if it were someone else, he knew for sure they both meant well.

All of the members on the SMP meant well, Sapnap knew that. But.. some were easier to trust. "Sap?.." Dream muttered, looking at the guy holding him. "I'm right here, D. Not going anywhere." That was probably one of his quickest recoveries, Sapnap was just glad he was there in time for it to not progress further.

He could remember a few times where he'd find Dream curled up in the bathtub, scratching violently at his arms to try and remind himself it wasn't real. Times where he'd spend hours holding Dream and talking to him even though the blonde couldn't hear him, couldn't see anything apart from his memories.

He could remember when Dream thought Sapnap was dead in his mother's place, and thought that he was his ghost.

"Sorry..." Dream apologised, shifting his gaze to the floor. Sapnap shook his head. "There's no reason to apologise, idiot." Sapnap huffed, finally getting out of the body of water with Dream still in his arms.

Dream didn't say anything when he was carried, or when a towel was being used to dry his hair. He didn't even look at Tommy or Wilbur, he didn't want to see their expressions. He didn't want to see what he was sure would be disgust on their faces.

"Can I have a look at.. You know.." Dream nodded slightly to Sapnap, though he didn't want to. "Tommy, Wilbur, could you two go? Or.. at least look away?" Wilbur and Tommy were gone just a second later, neither wanting to see Dream even begin to possibly react like he had mere minutes ago.

"It'll just be quick, I promise. I need to see if you reopened any.." Sapnap explained as he carefully rolled up Dream's sleeve, wincing a bit at the scars littering the previously pale and smooth skin.

"Other arm." Sapnap rolled Dream's sleeve down, moving to his other arm. After that, he rolled down Dream's socks, knowing he hid cuts there as well. "Do your thighs hurt?" Dream shook his head.

"I'll take your word for it.." Sapnap lifted Dream's shirt, seeing nothing was reopened there either. "Thank you, D. Now, let's get you home. It's getting dark." Dream just kept quiet. It wasn't that he didn't want to talk to Sapnap, he just couldn't. Sapnap understood, he knew how the blonde struggled.

"Do you want me to get George?" Dream shook his head, he only wanted Sapnap. Him or Techno. The two people he told. He didn't want George to see him like this. "Aww, I always knew you loved me more." Sapnap smiled, carrying Dream to his house.

Dream couldn't get over how Sapnap could carry him so easily.. Dream fell asleep on the way home, exhausted from the walking, the crying and the stupid memories.

He woke up to having a group around him, all holding him. Sapnap was to his left, Bad was to his right, George was laying on top of them and Techno was hugging him from behind. Dream smiled softly, closing his eyes again.
