The last time it disturbed and scared him was when he was five, when he saw one of his first corpses. He recalled being soaked in blood, the sound of the guts being moved around and grabbed, the smell.. It didn't bother him anymore, he grew numb to it.

The blood wasn't an issue either, now that he learnt how to get it mostly out of clothes. The first times he ended up covered in another person's blood, he freaked out. He thought he had messed up and that injuring them wasn't a good thing to do because of all the red.

He was taught otherwise. He was told that he had to kill, to hurt. In one environment, he learnt that he shouldn't hurt people. In the other, he was taught and trained to kill without remorse. His younger self found it easier to just listen to his family, though that caused many...Regretful situations.

Dream had always been told by the only adults he trusted that he had to fight back if someone tried to hurt him in any way. They kept encouraging him even after he got expelled for almost beating a kid to death in his first month of school.

They moved houses a lot, a result of work. Dream was 8 when he was given his first test- He had to not only kill a human target, but he had to do so without getting seen by any other occupants of the house, or he'd fail and be punished accordingly.

It was designed for him to fail, though that plan didn't work. Dream was named a prodigy. It wasn't long until he was required to start going on jobs. When he was 13, he was given the job to kill those who raised him.

Dream listened and finished the job. If he hadn't done the job, he'd be shamed and forced to go through the entire training process again. And someone else would take his job. Failure wasn't an option.

He got his own apartment to avoid being stuck outside and continued to work, knowing quitting also wasn't a possibility. The first time he learnt that most children his age didn't have jobs was when he heard one complaining about money.

Dream had decided to ask why they don't just request more jobs, but.. Well, he was just laughed at. He didn't understand it until he was asked some questions by one of the teachers.

Dream lied- of course he did, those who could be trusted had told him that talking about the job would get him fired- or in other words, executed. He could briefly mention a job without getting in trouble at all, though saying anything more than that wouldn't be great.

Dream wasn't scared of his bosses, of course not. If hired to, he'd be able to kill them with ease and without hesitation. He was, admittedly, more skilled with fighting and killing than all of them combined. Plus he knew all about them, their families, houses, work..

They were, after all, his last research job. Dream 'respected' his bosses for one reason, he was taught to. He wasn't grateful to them, he wasn't happy they existed, he didn't feel anything towards them.

The only person he had met through work who he liked at all was this one 17 year old who he was tasked to go on a job with. The man asked how old he was, so Dream lied. He was told that being more skilled while being younger than most started would upset others and get him in trouble.

They never exchanged names but Dream was sure they'd meet again. Over the next few years, Dream continued his work while going to school, keeping quiet so that he wouldn't attract unneeded attention.

He was 16 when they decided he was too dangerous to be kept alive. Dream was 16 when he went on the run for the first time. He was 16 when he had no where he could safely call home and had to live in constant fear.

Well- he wasn't scared. Dream didn't know what fear felt like. He didn't regret whatever he did to end up on the run, he also didn't exactly understand why there were police after him as well..

He ended up hiding out in empty rooms of this school he found- he hid in the walls when there were classes, listening to them because for once, it was something interesting. Dream learnt how to perform certain acts like making portals, potions, etc.

The day before he left the school, he learnt about the creation of servers as well as how to join servers. So of course, he ran away and tried to join one. He succeeded after multiple tries, passing out immediately upon arriving.

When he woke up, he found himself in a house. Dream looked around quickly, looking for a weapon of some kind. "Are you awake?" He heard a voice call from the door just after some knocks. He didn't say anything.

"Hm.. Well, if you are, I'll leave some food just outside the door for you." Dream stayed still, as if the person would walk in and attack him the second he moved. Logically, he knew that if that were the case he probably would've been killed while he was asleep.

A few hours later- Dream decided to get all the rest he could while he wasn't being chased down- the door was opened. "Hey there. Sorry for just coming into the room unannounced. I figured I should check on those cuts of yours." The demon-hybrid smiled at him, showing him the first aid kit. "..I can do it myself, thank you.." Dream muttered, barely even remembering where the fuck he got hurt.

"Nuh-uh. You've gotta let me do this. At least your back. And while I'm doing that, would you mind telling me about yourself?" Dream clenched his fists but reluctantly agreed to let the guy take care of his back, knowing that even if he were to attack, Dream could fend him off.

"Oh right, I never introduced myself. I'm the server owner, Badboyhalo, everyone just calls me Bad." Bad hummed, indirectly making sure Dream saw everything he grabbed out of the kit as he grabbed it.

"...Dream." Dream decided to give his name, his face was recognizable enough that it shouldn't matter if people knew his name or not. "I just want to clarify one thing, okay? You're safe here." Dream rolled his eyes, bullshit. Nowhere was safe.

Bad probably wanted him to lower his guard- What kind of a name is that anyway?! "Dream, nobody here's interested in capturing you." Bad tried to reassure him, making Dream huff. "How do I know you aren't lying?"

"Have you heard of the 'Red Devil'?" Dream nodded slowly, though he didn't say anything. "Right, well, now you've met him too. I left it behind and followed a path of medicine instead, never was found." Bad grinned, Dream tensing for a second.

"Oh.." Dream only met Bad once before, years ago, but he'd changed so much.. "So, what brings you here?" Dream clenched his fists, what should he say? Was there anything he shouldn't share? Should he just lie and make everything up? What would that get him though..?

Dream sighed. "They named me a prodigy, then they started hunting me down. What else is there to explain?" Dream hugged his knees to his chest, giving up on acting like he didn't give a shit. Really, it upset him. To be forced from his home.

He believed he was being childish by being upset, but right now, it didn't matter to him. "Well, where are your parents?" Dream took a breath. "Dead." He stated, still having no guilt, regrets or sadness over them.

Bad hummed. "I'm sorry to hear that." Dream shrugged, just staring forwards. He got no bad intent from the man tending to his back, so he could relax for the most part. "You know, I've got a kid a year or two younger than you." Now that, that had to be a joke.

"It's not." Dream tensed up. "What the fuck? Get out of my head, asshole!" Dream yelled without thinking, making the other start laughing. "Calm down, it was just a lucky guess."

"Fucking liar.." Dream huffed. "Language." The hybrid crossed his arms, disapproving of the cursing. That- that was funny. One of the assassins who had the most respect in the business, the most skill in his prime, was bothered by swearing?

"Dadddd, come on! You said you'd only be a minute!" Some kid yelled, pushing the door open. "Oh! Hi there! Are you that weird man dad dragged inside yesterday?"

"Sapnap, we've talked about knocking.." Bad muttered, sighing. "Well then, this is my son, Sapnap." The man introduced him, Dream looking over the kid to get an idea of his capabilities along with intent.

"Dream." He held his hand out to Sapnap, deciding that would be a good enough way to decide whether the kid was a threat or not. Sapnap grabbed his hand quickly, smiling widely. "Where'd you come from? How old are you? Are you gonna live with us??"

Bad put a hand on Sapnap's shoulder. "Slow down, we don't want to overwhelm our guest." He spoke gently, Sapnap nodding quickly with his smile only growing. Dream clenched his fist, feeling something he couldn't recognise when seeing the bond between them.

Dream ended up staying with them for a while, helping out where he could- it felt weird to not be constantly sent out to murder people.. He had to get used to it.

One night, Dream woke up to hearing an odd set of footsteps- not Sapnap's, Skeppy's or Bad's.. He grabbed the sharpest thing he could and slowly snuck out of the room he was staying in, searching for the intruder.

Dream found them, quickly bringing them to the floor and demanding the reason they were there. They lied and claimed it was just to play a 'prank' on Skeppy. 'Prank'? Was that some weird way to say steal, harm, or kill?

Dream killed them, staring as their body rapidly turned into dust. That was weird, all the other bodies he had previously seen didn't do that?.. "Dream, calm down- It's just me." Dream blinked and suddenly he had a knife to Bad's neck. What? He didn't remember doing that.

Dream lowered the knife. This meant he was going to die, surely. "Can you tell me what happened?" Dream just stared for a moment, unsure of what happened himself.

"I'm not mad, you muffinhead. Who was that?" Dream shrugged slowly, expecting Bad to get upset about him killing someone who wasn't a target. They always did that, reassured him he was okay, trained him to kill and yelled and hit him when he killed someone he wasn't told to. He never understood why.

"That's okay, I'll just ask them about it later." Dream grew confused at that, huh? How the fuck would Bad ask the dead person? "Oh right! You probably don't know, this isn't a permadeath server. Everyone respawns after dying."

Permadeath? Didn't people die and that was it..? This was so weird. "I'm guessing you came from the same server as me, that was permadeath." Dream was confused. Whatever, it didn't matter. He'd just have to look into it later..

"Also.. I know you've only been here for a few weeks, but if you want to stay.. Would you like to go to school with Sapnap?" Bad asked, a smile on his face as always. Dream didn't know whether he should accept the offer or not, it could be a trick..

"You must be tired. We'll talk about it tomorrow, yeah?" Dream nodded, still struggling to work out if there was some other reason behind the proposal. They both went back to their rooms, Dream laying down on the bed and staring at the roof. School, huh? It'd been a little bit since he went... He did want to learn more about servers, so maybe..? Whatever. Worst case scenario, he was back on the run and couldn't trust the people he had been staying with.

He ended up going to school. It was... surprisingly nice. Compared to his first school, it seemed like this one was out of some fairy tale. He only had to beat up one kid within the first few weeks.

Bad taught him about how to socialize and they slowly but surely got to the point where Dream could mostly avoid fights. A year or two in, Dream finally started letting himself be free. He let himself behave in ways he never would've back when he was with his family.

He ended up getting lost one day while playing with some of his new friends in the forest, needing to spend the next 24 hours trying to get out. How the fuck had he gotten this far in?

Dream collapsed after another few hours wandering, his legs too overworked to hold him up. "Fuck." He swore to himself. Maybe if he tried to join another server and then rejoined this one, he'd be at the spawn and be able to make his way home? It was worth a shot.

Dream focused on trying to complete the first process, the one that would take him out of the server. "Focus, for fucksake!" He yelled at himself, hoping that it would magically help him. A few minutes later, when he finally managed to not get distracted or forget what to do, he completed it.

A portal opened up underneath him, big enough for only him. He fell through, closing his eyes and hoping he'd end up in some nice server again.

This one was.. Completely void of buildings? Huh? Dream tried to use the method of traveling servers again, only getting a major burning pain all around his body in return. It was probably one of the worst pains he had experienced in his life, and that was saying something, considering that pain tolerance was a part of his training when he was younger. Dream clenched his fists and fell over, the grass making the impact softer. What just happened?

He tried one more time, just in case, and found that it failed again. Well shit. Dream sighed and got to work on building a temporary shelter- he had spent multiple nights needing to do this in the past, so he had a pretty good idea on how to do it.

Next, he should find some food. He already had the water situated, luckily being right next to a river. "Animals would be the best idea for now, but depending on whether I'm stuck here or not.." Dream decided to create a farm, just in case.

Worst case scenario, he left it behind and it all was pointless. Best case scenario- in regards to the farm-, he had a reliable food source for however long it'd take for him to get out of the server.

"Okay.. What now? Right, materials.." He spoke to himself, finding it was easier to remember and figure out what he had to do while speaking out loud. He started cutting down the trees first so that he could see his surroundings better and build a house, if and when it came to that. Wood for a fire would be nice as well.

"Now?.. Well, it's getting dark so I should probably sleep.." Dream mumbled, sitting down in the small, temporary shelter he made. It was safe enough so that he shouldn't get attacked, but not enough to keep the weather out. He laid down and slept, thankful for his ability to almost always fall asleep instantly.

When he woke up, he could smell the burning flesh of the zombies outside. His least favorite smell, for sure. Dream noticed the pile of bones just a bit outside his door and grinned a bit, he should get a dog. He'd always wanted one, after all. It'd be helpful with hunting for food as well. Dream nodded to himself. He was going to go get a dog!

Turns out, that was much easier said than done. He had to spend hours searching for the suitable environment and ended up not having enough bones to tame one of the wolves. Dream sighed to himself, making another temporary shelter- he'd make a more house-like thing in a week, if he couldn't get home by then. Home, that was a nice thought.

Out of all the places he had lived, he only ever had one place he could really call home. And now he might not make it back there. Dream shivered at the thought- and the cold- as he curled up around himself to stay as warm as possible for the time being. He fell asleep.

When he woke up, it felt like there was quite a bit of weight on top of him. He opened his eyes and had to blink a few times at the sight. A pack of wolves were huddled together, asleep, with him. Huh? Dream sat up slowly, one of the wolves opening its eyes and looking at him.

Dream was sure he was about to die- he couldn't do anything to defend himself apart from being prepared to stop it from biting him.He definitely didn't expect it to start licking his cheek. "..Good.. puppy?" Dream hesitated, taking note of how it's tail started to wag.

A few moments later, when it still hadn't bitten him, he gently petted the wolf. "You're just adorable~" He purred, deciding it wasn't a threat. He got a lot of licks all over his face, the other wolves beginning to wake up as well. "Okay- I have to get up.. Please?" Dream smiled a bit, knowing he needed to get back to the small farm he made.

They all huffed but got off of him, letting him get up. He gave each of them one more pat because he began to pack up his things. When he began walking away, he took a mental note of what the wolves looked like- he'd have to come back and say hi.
