Shane waked up in a surprisingly good mood, but that only was because of the inevitable. His family and his co-workers did not question him on this, in fact they didn't even notice this, so it was great. He didn't want to be stopped. He knowingly avoided Ian all day because of this. He knew Ian would recognize the sings and act, yet, keeping him away wasn't going to work. Ian heard the whispers in town, whisper's of Emily, that was happy to see Shane in a good mood. It dawned on him. He had to do something, he knew, even if it was a selfish action, he couldn't let him. Not after developing feelings for him. He felt bad. Ian knew this had a chance to make him more miserable. Would Shane even look at him if he intervened? He couldn't think of that. Only of the co consequences of the other's actions.

Shane had left a note before going to work, knowing Marnie would not look through his things besides if something happened. In it was just the truth and nothing but the truth. Something's he was to much of a coward to say, but after death he didn't need to be afraid about his actions. He well knew what he was going be seen has, nothing but an alcoholic and a bum after his death, but he made peace whit it when he was still living so there was no reason to be afraid. He wasn't afraid. That was what scared Ian. For what he heard, Shane wasn't afraid. He wanted to stalk the other the whole day but decided against it. He was gonna confront Shane after he was done whit his shift. And Shane? He was going to end it all right after it. It certainly was a fight against the clock, who would get there first? Of course, someone held a massive advantage.

The older went to the cliffs, although, whit no intention to jump. He sat at the edge, drinking a beer has he saw the sun go down. If he was going to disappear, at least let him go whit alcohol in him. Besides, he knew he needed to gain courage before he actually did it. He sat there, the sun was almost down, but tonight, he wouldn't see the stars. He pulled up his sleeves, his hands trembling from the cold hitting the skin, but still able to hold the box cutter he stole from work.
He did it. And has he slowly lost conscious he would only think of his last words.

Hey Marnie,
I'm sorry for this, you've been nothing but helpful but I can't keep going. I'm a failure, I had to admit that and fix it. Has you might now I've been struggling whit depression for a long time, so I figure you're not surprised for this happening. We all knew I'd end up dead, either from drinking to much or for what I do sober. Don't tell Jas the truth, I don't think she would even understand what I did, much less that it's not her fault. I want her to have a good life, please, make her happier then when I was around.
If you find Ian, tell him there was nothing he could do. I had to keep him away to protect him. Tell him I'm sorry and that he made my last few days a tad bit better.
I love you all, I'm sorry I must go.
Hopefully you'll learn to live whitout me.
Goodbye,
Shane.

**
Ian had searched through the town already but Shane wasn't there. This could only mean one thing, so he rushed to the cindersap forest, it was were Shane felt more comfortable so he must be there. He ran and ran, until he found the men in the cliffs. Shane had passed out, but the cold made the deep cuts stop bleeding, but there was still a lot of blood on the snow. Ian approached picking him up and whitout thinking twice, he ran to the hospital. People saw him, his face cold from the frozen tears, he panted, he could be strong but he was never good at running. The only reason he could even react so fast it was because of the adrenaline pumping through his veins. Has soon has he was in the hospital he screamed for Harvey, who took them to examine room. After Shane was on the bed, he was escorted out of the room, now walking slowly has he went to the waiting room. His breathing was troubled, the adrenaline slowly started wearing of and when he set foot on the waiting area his legs became wobbly, a few more steps and he fell to his knees.  He put his hands on the floor trying to catch his breath. It felt like an impossible task, bettwen all the running he did and the anxiety attack he felt that was coming. He took deep breaths, now looking up at the ceiling, tears forming. He sat on the ground, one of his legs up, he leaned against it and began to cry. Was this the right choice? Should he had let him for dead? Would Shane hate him for his actions? Most likely.
He sat there, crying for a good while, nothing was said for his condition and no one came in to check on him. Until Maru called her mother. Robin was one of the people Ian spoke whit the most, so it felt appropriate.

Robin: Ian, are you alright?- she asked from the door, the other whipping off his tears.

Ian: No... Shane attempted. Shane was keeping me away to attempt and I didn't realize. I should've realized then I co- he stopped feeling a hand on his shoulder, seeing Robin squatting down next to him.

Robin: You did everything that you could. You tried to be there for him when no one was, it's not your fault he didn't want your help. You stopped him from actually finishing it all. Be proud of that.

Ian: I can't. I didn't do it because it's the best for him. I did it because I love him.- silence followed, the woman did not have any idea of how to follow this. Should "good" actions still count because of selfish reasons? Is stopping someone from killing themselves even good?
