Cuddle Bug (Bucky x reader)

A surprise picnic

You stayed up in your room with Aurora and Alpine for a majority of the day, only coming down for lunch. You were disappointed that you seemed to scare your new doctor. Bucky seemed overly attentive during lunch, and made sure that you ate enough. When it was supper time Sam put extra food on your plate, and you groaned slightly wondering if you could possibly eat that much.
"How did it go?" Steve finally asked the burning question that no one had the guts to ask earlier at lunch time.
"We need to find a way to control her new found ability a little better, that's all" Bruce gave a kind smile, allowing you to step out of answering the question.
"I might have scared him off," you added in a soft whimper.
"Doll, he's heard the worst of the worst" Bucky tried to reassure you quickly. "He's made of tougher stuff"
"He came back after I lost control of my magic once" Wanda chimed in. "He's a good man, Doctor Sloan"
"So he won't give up on me?" you asked, sniffing slightly, feeling the tears at your waterline and threatening to go down your face again.
"Nonsense Kitten. No one is giving up on you" Loki shook his head.

"I have a surprise for you after supper" Bucky warned you, with a light of mischief in his eyes.
"Really?" you asked as you wiped at your eyes, furious that you had gotten so upset again. "What is it?" you asked curiously.
"Eat your supper first, kitten" Loki directed you back to your food. You frowned slightly, but started eating irregardless. You wanted to know what the surprise was, and Bucky seemed a bit excited for it, whatever it was. Small conversations went around the table while you all ate, you chose to eat in silence. When you finally finished, you were impressed you managed to eat everything on your plate, but you were overly full. You were half tempted to ask if you could go into the team's gym and use the treadmill to walk it off a bit. One look at Bucky's excited demeanor and you knew that was off the table. Whatever it was he had planned, you didn't want to ruin it for him.
You got up and put your dishes in the kitchen sink before you came back and sat down again. Sam reached behind you and rubbed your back for you in a comforting manner. You wanted to ask him what was going on, but he looked lost in his own thoughts.
"Alright, are you ready?" Bucky asked, standing up to go put his dishes in the kitchen.
"What am I supposed to be ready for?" you asked, a slight giggle in your voice.
"We are going for a walk outside" he came back from the kitchen and your breath hitched in your throat.
"You'll be fine" Sam whispered to you.
"Am I allowed outside?" you asked hopefully, looking to Tony for an answer.
"Bucky has made a good argument. Yes, you can go outside. Just on the compound grounds" Tony was careful on how he answered that. You were surprised he didn't use his usual nickname for Bucky. "I need to have a meeting with Fury before we let you off the compound grounds. Fury had someone go to your cabin and double check, it looks like Hydra didn't find it. There's no signs of it being touched at all, in case you were wondering"
"Thank you," you whispered, feeling a little shy that they had gone so far for you.
"You should go get a sweater" Sam looked at you seriously.
"No, that's part of the date" Bucky smiled excitedly. "I'll be right back, you stay here," he got up from the table again and disappeared towards the stairs.
"He's so excited" you giggled, watching the empty hallway and waiting for him to reappear.
"He's been looking forward to it all day," Nat chuckled slightly.
"Is it just a walk?" you whispered to her.
"You'll just have to wait and see, Cuddle bug" she leaned forward and winked at you.
"You are starting to look a lot better" Happy complimented you. "Much better than when they first brought you home"
"Thank you" you flushed a bit.

Bucky re-emerged from the hallway not too long after most people excused themselves for the night. He dipped into the kitchen for a minute before he came back out with a picnic basket that was covered with a red and white checkered cloth. He had one of his zip up hoodies over his arm and he came back to you and set the basket down on the table, then held out the hoodie for you.
"Come on, it's cold out," he prompted you. You stood up and he helped you put on the hoodie. You were engulfed in the large amount of fabric, and he chuckled slightly before reaching down and zipping up the front. It was a normal black hoodie, but it smelled just like him. You took a deep breath in, just feeling at peace, and enveloped in his scent.
"Thank you" you smiled at Bucky, and he beamed in response. He held out his hand, and you quickly took it before he grabbed the basket with his left hand and he started to lead you toward the doors that he had taken you out of previously to go to the outdoor pool with the garden.
As soon as you stepped outside, the wind whipped around you. There was a definite chill to the air, and you felt it go straight up your back, under Bucky's sweater. Bucky seemed unbothered by the wind, standing in just his sweatpants and a t-shirt. You felt a little bit jealous you were getting a bit cold, while he looked quite frankly, amazing, as usual. He held your hand firmly in his own, slowing his pace so it was on point with your own. You felt a little bit of anxiety from being outside and looked around suspiciously, but you didn't see anyone else except for a few of the compound guards that seemed to have been doubled in security since you came back from captivity.
"How did today really go?" Bucky whispered to you.
"I broke a lightbulb, and he called it a day" you frowned a bit, fighting the urge to cry again.
