Chapter 72 - Unnamed
I was on my way to Squishy's and then the hospital, when I saw the familiar truck in my driveway, I turned back and slammed the door.
"Nana!!: I screamed, and I heard heavy steps from the kitchen.
"What?" She asked, clearly annoyed.
"He's here!" Understanding followed disbelief in her eyes.
"Hide!" She gasped, before grabbing something from the fridge. I ran behind the wall opposite of the door, and remembered the first time Tyler ever came and Nana acted as a cougar. The knock sounded when after I heard something poured in the sink, the door was thrown open, and I heard stumbling. I risked a peek and saw a large half empty scotch bottle in Nana's hand, before I dunked back.
"Nana?" His voice floated to my ears, soft and almost hoarse.
"Tyler!" She slurred. "I was ju-st hitting the to-kill-ya!" I heard a hiccup and a giggle.
"Is Ella here?" He asked, I held my breath. "I've been worried, Payson and Bud don't even come near me, and Ethan wont talk to me. No one will tell me how she has been since she passed out." His voice sounded concerned and it tore me deep. Oh Tyler, why cant you just love me? I asked myself. I heard Nana snort.
"Yea, she is doing fine. That's why she is at school 'all' the time." She drawled and giggled again.
"Can I talk to her?" He asked hopefully, well, what I thought was hopeful.
"Nope! Not unless you want to unlock her face from Squishy's." She hiccuped then paused. Meanwhile I think my jaw hit the floor. "Or is it Squish-two..." She trailed off, and I so badly wished I could see her face... and his.
"You mean the twin mountains from the Slums?" He sounded shocked and then angry.
"Yep! He is so nice." He voice sounded dreamy. "But then again, I have been having happy hour with my date, that you interrupted." Her voice went accusatory at the end.
"Sorry, Nana. I didn't realize she was taking a romantic vacation from school." He hissed. "I thought she was sick."
"I would offer to tell her you were here, but she is going to be there for awhile." As if on perfect timing a loud crash came from upstairs and Sapphira barked at the top of the stairs at me. I quietly shewed her away. "A long while." Nana added and my face turned bright red. How the hell would I live this down? If I thought facing him was hard before, it would be torturous now.
"Well, don't bother telling her I was here, then." He said coldly, then I heard a deep sigh. "I'm sorry for snapping Nana, I'm not mad at you, just missing my friend is all." He sounded so defeated, I couldn't help but come out and comfort him, but I decided to rough up my hair and silently walk up the stairs and run down. I heard the door stop mid close.
