Katniss POV- (July 2nd)
"Peeta, I really miss my mom."
He looks up from his sketch, "Huh?"
"I miss my mom a lot." I say.
I haven't talked to her since April and it's July.
"I'm sorry, sweetie. If you want maybe we could go to Ten, then Four, and then One to see all of our everyone." Peeta says.
I smile a little, thinking how fun it would be.
"You would really let us be gone that long?"
He smiles a little and nods, "Wherever you wanna go, we will."
I walk over and sit down next to him on the chair next to his desk, "When can we go?"
"Anytime you want but we oughta call everyone and see if they're busy."
I smile excitedly," I can call Annie and Bristol if you call my mom."
Peeta's smiles drops, "Katniss, you can't ignore her forever. If you miss her, talk to her while you can, until we go see her. She's going to be upset if you don't talk to her when we call."
I frown, dreading the phone call but wanting more than anything to talk to her.
I don't know what to say and I don't know if I am mad at her or if she's gonna have a good enough reason to not have called for three months.
"What about her not talking to us for three months? I haven't heard from her since our wedding, Peeta. She never called on my birthday and it's not just that. She's basically lost all contact with us this last year."
"Do you really blame her?"
I sigh, "No, but we are the only family she has left. She's the only family I have left besides you and your family. I need my mom despite everything that's happened. I just miss her."
Peeta inhales deeply, "I know you do and I want you to see her but I'm sure she has a good reason for ignoring us, just see."
"Okay. You're talking to her first." I insist, shoving my phone into his hand.
He sets his dulled pencil on his sketch of me and dials her number.
"Hey, Mrs. Everdeen." Peeta says politely.
"We are okay. We both miss you and we wanted to know if it was alright if we visited you soon? We don't know the days yet." He asks nervously.
"Okay, I will tell her."
He listens for a minute.
"It's okay. She will forgive you." Peeta mumbles, "We love you too."
"Okay, bye." He says.
As soon as he hangs up, I give him a desperate look.
"What'd she say? What am I going to forgive her for, Peeta? Can we go?" I ask.
He frowns, "She doesn't want any visitors. I'm sorry, Katniss."
My heart sinks.
My own mother doesn't even want to see me.
"Why?" I ask, tears filling my eyes.
Peeta wraps his arms around me and kisses my head, "I don't know. She didn't really say but she said it was for a good reason."
I let the tears fall, along with the homesickness for my mother.
Sure, I don't always get along with her and she isn't always the nicest and she hasn't always been here for me but I love her.
