Freen was already running late but the traffic coming out of the city was even more terrible than usual. Freen was growing impatient knowing that she had to be at the fundraiser for the opening address.
"Heng, call Noey" she said
"Sure," he said-RING RING-
Heng put the phone on speaker."Hello? Fee! Are you outside?" Noey said as soon as they answered
"There's a lot of traffic, can you wait? I'll be there very soon" she replied
"I can try! See you soon!" They said as they dropped the phone."You know if we brought Non we'd have been able to bypass all this traffic" Heng said laughing at Freen's frustration
Freen began to scowl at Heng
"He can't be that bad," Heng continuedAfter 20 minutes in a queue, Freen finally passed by the accident that caused the traffic build up. She briefly caught sight of a young man on the side of the road clearly in shock.
Finally Free of all barriers, Freen sped down the motorway and quickly arrived at the university physics hall. She jumped out of the car and once inside Freen made her way to the changing area to freshen up. "You can head inside and let Noey know we're here" she genstured to Heng, waving him towards the main hall. Now standing in front of a mirror in the changing room, she fixed her make up and tidied her hair. Sticking to the theme Freen was wearing a red double breasted dress with kitten heels. Freen looked beautiful and sophisticated but she was still a little flushed with blood in her cheeks and a little restless.
Once she looked presentable, she quickly headed towards the changing room door to join the party. But just as she opened it a woman in a petite red dress cut her off - exiting the changing area before her.
It was Becky.
Freen flung herself back into the changing room pinning her back against the wall then creeped back into her cubical. Freen suddenly recalled that Becky taught at the university, that she was in fact a physics professor and that come to think of it, Noey was the department head of the physics department at UoB. Noey was her boss.
Her heart rate rose and she started to sweat. Freen had now realised just how much she liked Becky with a little help from Nam and Noey, though she had not admitted it to them vocally. She had only stolen a glance at Becky and her knees were already about to fold.
Freen slowly opened her cubical door checking to see if Becky had gone. She sneaked around the corner and out of the door like an international spy attempting to escape capture.
Freen stood outside the hall pacing back and forth for several minutes until Heng came to find her.
"Speedy!" He said
"Noey is doing their best to stall but you have to get in there." He continued, without noticing Freen's distressHeng grabbed Freen's wrist and dragged her into the hall. Locking eyes with Noey, Freen began to walk up to the podium where Noey was already addressing the attendants. She caught sight of Becky and suddenly she could not look away. Her eyes were fixed on Becky. Freen noticed that she looked even prettier today. She noticed that someone was standing incredibly close to her. She even noticed that Becky's birth mark on her left temple was on display.
"...Remember attendance isn't free! Make sure you hand over your donations at the back." Noey laughed.
Freen was zoned out completely. For her it was like the room was silent and only her and Becky were taking up space. She continued to stare at Becky who had not yet noticed she was here.
Noey continued, "Now, before we start the auction, a word from a dear friend of mine and the founder of this very building, Freen Chankimha!"
Becky turned to look at Freen who was now frozen stiff.
Freen was now somehow on the podium and behind the mic. She continued to stare at Becky, even though all eyes were on her, she was mesmerised by Becky's beauty and unable to shake the feelings that were building up inside her. Becky was staring back at her of course and Baitoey noticed.
"FREEN!" Noey exclaimed
"Are you going to hold us hostage all night?" They continued. The crowd laughed as they gestured her to get on with it.
Freen leaned over, grabbed the mic abruptly and simply said "Thanks.""Uh, it looks like she took 'a word' literally" Noey mused moving the event along.
Freen made her way off of the podium and was heading in Becky's direction when Heng grabbed her by the elbow pulling her into a conversation. Heng leaned over to whisper in Freen's ear "this is the Prince's cousin Billy", Freen broke her stare for a moment to greet him with a bow then returned her eyes to their fixed perspective.
Heng pulled Freen to the side. "What's the matter?" He said. "Look, I know you're probably tired but that's your fiancé's cousin! Grandmother is going to kill us if we don't make nice"
Freen, hearing the words "grandmother" snapped out of her daze. Freen redirected her attention into networking with Heng's words ringing in her ear. Every so often Freen would steal a glance and Becky would do the same. Freen engaged in conversation after conversation until she was spent.

"Do you know Freen?" Baitoey asked noticing Becky's stare. Baitoey was a fairly confident woman but the energy between Freen and Becky was undeniable. "Becky?" She continued
"Huh?" Becky replied
"Freen, do you know her?" She repeated
"Not.. exactly" she said "We met last weekend"
"Ah ok" Baitoey said knowing there was more to the story but deciding against pressing her further.Noey, mounted the podium again and began to clink their glass. Once all attention was on them, they said "it's time to start the auction, we have two of our very own faculty who have kindly volunteered themselves as dates. Help me welcome onto the stage Mr Dew Nitikorn Pankram a very eligible bachelor...
...and Miss Rebecca Armstrong who graciously agreed to replace Mrs Sulax Siriphattharapong."
