FORTUNE: A FREENBECKY STORY

Chapter 60 🏥

"Did you find anything?" Non said
"The same calling card they've used in the past. I think it's time to get rid of them." Billy said
"I think you're right. Uncle Wo is already setting up surveillance measures on all their known spots and hideouts." Non said
"I'll join him." Billy said
Non noticed that Billy was especially agitated after rescuing Heng.
"I need to speak to my brother." Non said

Freen was sat at Heng's bedside the entire night. She had not yet fallen asleep she had been watching Heng all night and Becky had been watching her.

Becky sat in deep thought, now she knew Heng was safe and was going to be okay, she was selfishly thinking about Freen. She wondered why Freen instructed her to come with them. She thought about how she held Freen's hand and everything suddenly felt right.

Becky was fighting back a smile as she watched Freen because she deeply understood that her feelings for Freen had not weaned or waned in the time they had spent barely communicating. Becky was also excited because now she felt comfortable enough to talk it out with Freen and finally tell her everything.

"Speedy?" Heng said, his voice hoarse
"Heng." Freen said
"Are you okay?" Heng said
"Am I okay? Are YOU okay?" Freen said
"Yeah, why?" Heng's giggle turned into a cough
"Becky, can you get some water?" Freen said
"Yes sure" Becky said

Freen's eyes were filled with worry.
"I'm fine Freen. Really." Heng
"Yeah?" Freen said
She smacked his leg lightly.
"Ouch, I'm fine but I still nearly died!" Heng said
They both laugh.

"What happened?" Freen asked
"I was kidnapped obviously" Heng said
"Heng." Freen said sternly

"I'm not sure how much you've found out by now but I was taken by a man called Butcher. He works for a family called the Mukhtar. But they disappeared after day one and left me to starve." Heng said
"Butcher? Sounds like a nasty piece of work. And I know pretty much everything now. But I'm not angry at you and grams for keeping it from me." Freen said
"You know everything? Even about Mum and Dads death?" Heng asked
"Everything" she said
"Oh. Well, I guess the jig is up" he laughed
"It's not funny Heng. You could have just told me." Freen said

Heng sat up.
"I saw how much you clung to the heirloom when Dad died. I knew Grams would never let you keep it. And I was pretty sure you'd never lose it too. Till you did." Heng said
"I didn't lose it." Freen said
"Really? Where is it?" Heng said
"I gave it to Becky." Freen said
"Urmm.. as romantic as that is speedy you're only putting her in danger." Heng said

"It belongs to her family." Freen said
"What do you mean?" Heng said
"I think Becky is related to Grams' university twins." She said
"No way." Heng exclaimed
"Yeah I think so" Freen said
"How'd you know?" Heng said
"The day I gave it to her she was rambling about Marlin and genies and her family. I didn't understand what she was saying. But I could see the desperation in her eyes and something in me couldn't take that so I gave her my most precious possession. Maybe that's why I felt so betrayed by her. It felt like she'd hurt me so deeply without knowing and I still could not resist caring about her needs." Freen said

"I see. Well, if you didn't think you guys were destined to be together before I think the gods are probably laughing at you at this point." Heng said
"Shut up." Freen said
"How is she as a secretary?" Heng said
"I knew that was you. It gave me some comfort that she was with me when you were in danger. It felt like you sent her to comfort me." Freen said
"Maybe I did." Heng said
"Yeah right." She said

"I'm happy she's here though. Have you guys had a chance to speak yet?" Heng asked
"Not really. I was too worried about you." Freen said
"I think you should move that up your list." Heng said
Freen scowled.

"What are we going to do about the Mukhtar?" Freen asked
"I think we should leave it to Billy and Non. I was working with Billy before they grabbed me. He had a plan to flush them out." Heng said
"And what about the genie magic? There's no way something like that should exist." Freen said
"I'm afraid it's a little more complicated than that but we have been working on something. After years of trying to crack genie magic the one thing we were able to do effectively was understand it. Grams instructed me to start developing something that could potentially nullify it. I brought it back to Thailand on my last visit. It's under grams care." Heng said

Becky walked into the room with a cup of water in her hand. She handed it to Freen and sat back down. Freen and Heng looked at each other trying to gauge whether or not Becky had overheard their conversation.

Shortly after, Non came in.
"The doctor is happy with Heng's levels and thinks he's good to go home. I'm assigning you all security." Non said
"Can you assign her security too" Freen said pointing at Becky
Becky was puzzled by the gesture.
"Of course." Non said
"Her family too." Freen said
"Of course." Non said as he left the room

Freen followed Non out of the room towards the front door and stopped him.
"Hey Non. Thanks. I don't know how to repay you but I owe you everything." Freen said
"No need to thank me. As I understand, some of this is partly our fault." He said before walking away.

Freen was puzzled by the statement.
"Urm, I'm going to go home and wash up. Then come into the office in a few hours" Becky said
"No. Stay home and rest." Freen said
"Okay." Becky said
"And thank you... For coming." Freen said
Becky smiled.
