Becky stood in front of the vending machine she used last night to order dinner.  She inserts two coins and selects 2 bottles of water.

Becky makes her way to the orthopaedic ward and enters Richie's room. Richie's right leg is elevated in a sling and his arm is bandaged up. Becky opens a bottle of water and hands it to her mum. She opens the second one and pours it into Richie's mouth.

"Ouch ouch!" Richie exclaims
"Sorry!" Becky says

Just then, the doctor entered the room.
"How are you doing Richie?" He asked
Richie looked at his Ma and little sister.
"I'm fine" he said
"No you're not, your leg is broken in 5 places and your arm is covered in bruises" Ma said, her eyes bloodshot from crying and worrying.
"I'm fine Ma" Richie repeated

"She's right, you're quite lucky. You're fine but you have a long road to recovery and walking on your own" the doctor said

There was some commotion outside Richie's door. Voices getting closer and closer until the door opened. "I'm sorry, the police has a few questions for you" the nurse said as she entered with 4 men.

"Police?!" Ma said "what is this about?"
"Sorry ma'am we need to speak to Richie" the officer explained.
"You can't speak to him he's still recovering" she said
"But he's conscious, surely he can clear a few things up for us" the officer petitioned

"NO! NOT RIGHT NOW." Ma said with a raised voice

Freen arrived from behind the door, upon seeing her the officers immediately recognised her. "Khun Freen" they said with a bow.

Freen scanned the room, she saw Becky's mum distressed, Richie in pain and Becky trying to calm her mother down.

She took the officers outside and spoke to them. Becky was surprised to see Freen. She had no idea what to make of it. She felt like Freen was determined to torture her for reasons unknown to her. Becky looked around the room at her family and decided to lock those thoughts away at the back of her mind.

"Richie, why do the police want to speak to you?" Becky asked "I thought you said no one else was in the accident."
Richie was silently contemplating something in his mind, he had always done that as a child he was the type of person who thought before he spoke or acted out. It was very much unlike him to be in this amount of trouble.

Finally sitting up in his bed as best he could he muttered "ok, don't be angry"
"What? What happened?" Becky said eagerly
"Just say it Richie" Ma said

Becky looked at them both.
"Da sent me home to protect you" he said

Freen reentered the room just at that moment. They all fell silent.
"I've sent them away, they won't be coming back" Freen said looking at Becky with a worried expression
"Who is this Becca?" Ma asked
"She's just a big sponsor for our faculty Ma" Becky replied

Becky grabbed Freen's hand into hers and took her outside. Becky let out a pained sigh.
"Thank you." Becky said
"You don't have to thank me" Freen said
"I do, but what are you doing here?" Becky asked
"I just came to check that everything was okay, Noey told me about the accident when I went to drop off my donation" Freen explained
"Oh yeah the auction, our date" Becky said
"That can wait, I think I saw the accident on my way to the fundraiser that night, is Richie okay?" Freen asked
"He's okay, a broken leg and some bruises" Becky replied

"What actually happened?" Freen asked
"Urm... I- well-, not 100% sure yet" Becky hesitated to answer

Becky was still in her red dress from the night before. She had not been home. She was visibly shaken up, flustered and sleep deprived.

"Let me leave you" Freen said
Becky felt like Freen had more to say and they had more to discuss but as she looked back into Richie's room she determined this was not the time.
"Oh yeah sure, by the way I'm sorry I didn't reply to your message. It was a lot to explain over Line." Becky said
"It's okay no need to apologise. If you need anything let me know" Freen replied
"Ah thank you" Becky said

Becky looked slightly puzzled. "Why was Freen being so nice? Did she feel bad for the way she treated me?" Becky thought
Becky smiled.
"Thank you for coming, I'm glad we can be friends." Becky said
"Yeah..." Freen responded.

Becky left Freen in the corridor and reentered Richie's room.

The moment she entered, their faces were downcast. "Richie, spill, now!" Becky demanded.
