FORTUNE: A FREENBECKY STORY

Chapter 55 🤴🏽

Richie sat through boring orientation classes that were designed to equip him to stay inconspicuous. They gave him a number of tools to install at home as well as a watch with a panic button. This was the real deal.

Later that day they also began a deep scrape of surveillance footage looking for a missing person. By the time the day was done Richie was in a state of information overload.

Richie packed his bags and headed towards the lift. On his way he met a door ajar and caught a glimpse of 3 men in a room, 2 he recognised and 1 who was unfamiliar.

"So you mean to tell me genies are real?" Non said
"It was classified information only passed down to kings." Billy said
"I understand but I'm just having a hard time wrapping my head around it." Non said
"That's understandable" Billy said
"And that's the reason they took Heng?" Non asked
"Dad, maybe you should explain" Billy said
"Your fiancés family seems to have an interesting past" General Wo said

There was a creak at the door. Billy went to look and shut the door firmly behind him. Richie snuck into the lift having heard what they had been saying.

Richie arrived home just in time for dinner. Becky and Ma were already sitting at the table. Richie joined them and sat quietly eating. Becky noticed of course and when dinner was over and Ma went to wash up, Becky stayed.

"What's up Rich?" Becky said
"Long day" Richie smiled
"How was it?" Becky asked
"Definitely interesting" Richie replied
"Interesting good?" Becky asked
"Yes actually. Lots of things to digest though." Richie said
Becky smiled at Richie, "you're going to kill it" she said

Richie smiled, he was happy to see Becky in good spirits.
"How's the new job?" Richie asked
"Great." Becky said
"I guess everything is going as planned then?" He asked
"Well... not exactly but there's hope." She said
"You really care about her, I can see that, I'm sure she'll see it soon too." Richie said
"Yeah..." Becky blushed

"By the way, what on Earth have you and Marlin been up to in the garden?" Richie asked
"Oh haha. He's been teaching me self defence." Becky said
"Oh really? Can he teach me too? It's like I'm invisible to him." Richie said
"You're the lucky one, trust me" Becky said

"Do you still feel unsafe?" Richie asked
"Well, the people who killed Da are still out there so it's hard not to." Becky said
"Yeah, you're right." Richie said

Richie called back to the conversation he overheard that day and began to think the people who took Freen's brother were the same people who had killed their Da.

"Hey Beck, we were doing some data sweeps looking for a missing person today, I discovered shortly after that the person we were looking for was Freen's brother." Richie said
"Heng?" Becky asked
" Yes, that's not all. I don't want you to freak out but do you think the people who kidnapped Heng could be the same people who killed Da?" Richie said
"What? What makes you say that?" Becky said now sporting a very serious expression
"Well... I gathered some intel." Richie said
"Intel? That's a stretch. You may be getting ahead of yourself Mr Bond" Becky laughed
"Haha! Maybe" Richie said

Becky did not believe that Freen's family had anything to do with the mystery behind genies. Freen had no idea what the essence was and what it could do. However, she thought it may be worth asking Freen where she got it.

Becky's expression sobered.
"Hey, don't worry, we'll find him. I know everything will work out." Richie reassured her
"You sound like Da" Becky said with a smile
Richie smiled back.

"Richie! Becky! Let's play cards!" Ma shouted
Richie and Becky sprung up from their seats and approached the living room.
Ma was already shuffling a deck of cards and as usual the news was on in the background.
Ma begun to dish the cards out.

"Khun Sa the front runner in the political race for Prime Minister of the country has launched an attack on the monarchy citing historical deception and the usurping of power. He alleges that the royal family became our monarchs using a mystical power. He's accused them of hoarding that power for themselves and continuing to use it to deceive and coerce the people. These very big claims come from a candidate that is no stranger to controversy. Many believe his campaign to have been funded from profit gained engaging in criminal activity. We have seen his campaign pick up more and more traction in recent weeks due to his charismatic personality and frank way of talking."

I know you're all waiting for some more FreenBecky moments but I'm just building towards it. The plot also needs to be fed in this story but it will be worth it I promise!
