"I'm sorry" Becky said
"It's ok. I forgive you." Freen blurted out
"You do?" Becky asked
"Yes... sorry, is that all? I'm kind of in the middle of something." Freen asked
"Uh yeah... that- that was it" Becky said
"Ok, I'll see you soon. Safe journey back"
Freen turned around and just before she shut the door behind her, Marlin's blue mist slipped between the gate.
Freen made her way back inside where she found Heng sitting on the sofa.
"Who was it?" Heng asked
"Wrong door number" Freen replied
"Ok, well where were we. Ah yes, that Becky girl. So you aren't in love with her anymore?" Heng said
"I didn't say that. I just said I'm going to move on." Freen replied
Heng got up and made his way to the kitchen.
"With Heidi?" Heng asked
"No. That was a mistake." Freen said
"Mistake? I've not known you to make such mistakes Freen. And does she know that it was a mistake?" Heng asked
"She left pretty early so we couldn't talk about it" Freen replied
Heng poured himself a cup of coffee.
"You mean she ran out of here after I caught her in your room this morning" Heng said
"Look I was just having a bit of fun. It's nothing serious" Freen said
"Well... that's fine. But if you're just using Heidi to get over Becky. I don't think that's fair." Heng said
"You're wrong." Freen said
"Which part did I get wrong? You're still in love with Becky, I caught you with Heidi in your bed this morning, or that Heidi is being kept in the dark about your feelings - which part did I get wrong?" Heng asked
Freen joined Heng in the kitchen and poured herself a cup of coffee too. She grabbed her bag and tossed her keys into it.
"Since when have you been so concerned about my love life?" Freen asked
"I'm not. But I want you to be happy." Heng replied
"I'm fine." Freen said
"Happy not fine." Heng said
"And you think Becky would make me happy?" Freen asked
"I know she would." Heng said
Freen took several steps back.
"You're wrong. I'll admit, I'm still in love with her. It's taking every ounce of strength I have not to act on it but I don't think I'll ever be able to trust her again. Who I believed her to be is not in question. I get that she was grieving. But now I know she's capable of breaking me, of hurting me deeply and now that I've recognised that I don't think I'll ever be able to let my guard down again." Freen said
"Ok. We'll see." Heng said with mischief in his voice
"Anyway, I'm going to the office. I'll be back in time to drop you off at the airport this evening." Freen said
"Ok" Heng gestured
Freen left the house and got into her car. Heng took his coffee upstairs. He waited a while to hear Freen start her car then approached Freen's room slowly.
He carefully made his way into Freen's closet and started rummaging through her drawers. It hadn't been more than a couple minutes before Freen's door swung open.
Heng jumped, knocking his knee on Freen's drawer.
"Speedy, you're still here?" Hang said rubbing his knee cap.
"Uh yeah, I forgot my phone charger, what are you doing in my closet?" Freen said
"I was just checking to see if any other girls were hiding in here or if it was just Heidi this morning" Heng said
"Let it go Heng" Freen said searching for her charger
Heng laughed nervously
"Ah yeah, I've been meaning to ask you. You know that perfume dad gave you, can I borrow it?" Heng asked
"What is it with that perfume, essence, or whatever" Freen snapped
"Essence? What do you mean? What do you know?" Heng asked
"Well now it sounds like you know something that I don't" Freen said
Heng laughed and smiled it off. Heng was charming and good at diffusing these types of situations.
"It was Dad's right? Isn't it for men? I thought I could use it" Heng replied
"Right." Freen said, her voice full of suspicion.
