Chapter 72 🫣

Freen was sat at her desk working when Becky arrived. It was the first time Freen had been in the office so early in a long while so everyone was extra jittery.

Becky knocked on the door.
"Miss Chankimha, I'm here." Becky said
"Uh.. yes come in and close the door." Freen said

Becky entered the office and shut the door firmly behind her. Becky used the remote to shut the blinds then went to pull Freen into a soft kiss. Freen hesitated and pulled away.

"Miss Chankimha?" Freen said
"We're at work." Becky said
"I thought you always called me that to keep a boundary between us that warmed me not to cross it" Freen said
"Ummm... nope just because it's your name ...and I wanted to be professional at work with you rather than be a burden to you." Becky laughed

Becky stared into Freen's eyes, moved a strand of hair from her line of sight then caressed her cheek. Freen turned around and went to her seat with her arms folded.

"Is something wrong?" Becky asked
"Speaking of work, I want to ask you something." Freen said
"Sure." Becky said sitting down.
"Why did you become my secretary?" Freen asked

Becky paused to think.
"When I first got the call I didn't want to do it. I thought I'd make you uncomfortable but Heng convinced me that you would need me. So I accepted and he was right." Becky said
"Oh because Heng asked you to?" Freen said
"Well... I also wanted to be near you and thought there was a chance I could win you back." Becky said

"So you gave up your career for that?" Freen asked
"I stopped teaching long before that." Becky said
"Right..." Freen said
"What is this about?" Becky asked
"I don't think you should make rash decisions because of me. I don't think you should give up your career because of your infatuation with me." Freen said
"Infatu..." Becky said

Becky stood up and walked over to Freen to grab her hands.
"Freen, I'm in love with you." Becky continued
"You're too smart to be a secretary." Freen said
"Freen, did you hear me? I love You." Becky said
"I love You too." Freen said
"And ok, I hear you. My life has been pretty chaotic lately. I'll speak to Noey." Becky said

Becky planted a soft kiss on Freen's forehead as she continued to stare into space.
"And I'm not infatuated with you. I'm in love with you." Becky said
"Ok" Freen said

At the end of the day Freen exited her office to see Becky still at her desk.
"I'll see you tomorrow" Freen said
"Tomorrow? 🙄ok, see you" Becky said

Becky packed up her stuff and got into her car. She headed straight for campus where Noey was just locking his office up.

Becky ran up just in time.
"Noey! I.. caught... you" Becky said catching her breath
"Becky! How are you and the family?" Noey said
"We're all getting there." Becky said
"How's Malaia?" Noey asked
"Stronger than all of us. The baby is doing great too. Due in a few months." Becky said
"That's good! What brings you down here?" Noey smiled

"Well... I came to ask for my job back." Becky said
"Sure. You start tomorrow." Noey said
"What? That was easy" Becky said
"Well we'd been trying to replace you for a while but couldn't find the right fit." Noey said
"Really?" Becky said
"Plus, Freen came to ask me this morning to give you your job back. I knew I'd see you today. Cut it pretty close though." Noey said
"Sorry. She's spiralling at the moment about something." Becky said

Noey picked up his bag and began to walk to the car.
"I'm used to that." Noey said
"Thanks Noey!" Becky said
"Don't thank me yet, you have so much work to do to finish out the academic year. And you got into the government research programme I put you and Toey up for." Noey said
"Woah... my outer dimension research study got approved?" Becky asked
"Yup" Noey said

Noey got into his car.
"I have to head home to tuck my sister in. I'll see you first thing tomorrow morning so I can get you up to speed." Noey said
"Thank you!" Becky said

Becky got into her car and celebrated the news for a moment before heading back into the city.
Becky pulled up to Freen's house and entered the door code.

"Ahhhhh!" Freen shouted
Becky switched the light on to reveal herself.
"You startled me." Freen said

"Hi love." Becky said
"I didn't think you were going to come back here tonight." Freen said with her arms crossed
Becky pulled Freen into a hug.

"Why did you leave the office without me? What's the matter?" Becky asked
"Nothing." Freen said
"Tell me." Becky said
"It's nothing." Freen said

"Is this to do with you being my first?" Becky asked
"Yes." Freen answered firmly
