Days had passed, and they were still travelling through the woods, diverting every time they got near to the sound of horses. Y/N could not remember how long she had been running for, but it seemed like forever.
"Are we adopting him?" Y/N asked as she watched Finan make a boat with Cynlæf and Sihtric by the stream. Finan looked up at her with a smile. It was the first genuine one she had seen.
"Edward might want him back." Finan said sadly as he put the boats on the stream as he ruffled there hair. Y/N sat down with her legs crossed as she watched them. As much as she did not want to admit it, she did not want to let Æthelstan go. She had started to love the boy as her own.
Y/N was pulled out of her thoughts when Sihtric jumped out from the tree behind her, causing her to slap him.
"I will kill you Sihtric Kjartansson!" She growled out. Sihtric wrapped his arms around her apologetically.
"Yu know people can die from being scared." Finan said as he pointed his knife at Sihtric. "It's also not good for the mother to be frightened. When she is carrying our unborn child." Sihtric released Y/N before sitting beside Æthelstan as he helped him build another boat.
"When will they come?" Cynlæf asked, referring to his new sibling. He still was not quite sure how a child was inside a woman's stomach.
"Whenever they want to come out." Sihtric said in amusement as he remembered the day Cynlæf was born. They day they lost Thyra.
"How does a child into your stomach, Lady?" Æthelstan asked curiously. Cynlæf nodded his head at his friend, also wanting to know the answer. The two boys had been asking the question since they had found out. Y/N looked at Finan, who scratched his beard, clearly not going to answer, while Sihtric looked at the trees.
"Umm. Do you remember that time when you saw a chicken climb on top of another chicken..." The two boys looked at each other, a disgusted face forming as they realised.
"Ewwww!"
"No. No. No." They cried out. Making a series of noises as they looked at the two men who became slightly embarrassed.
"Thanks for your help." Y/N spat out.
"But. But. How?" Cynlæf asked, clearly disturbed. Finan patted his son awkwardly, not knowing what to say.
"There's two of you? How do you? Do you swap?" Cynlæf asked.
"Right! That's enough questions!" Sihtric said quickly, for the first time he became flustered at his sons questions, trying to switch topics to something else.
Y/N got up and decided to scout the area in the woods for a while, just in case Eadiths brother Eardwulf found them. She had also wanted some time alone to think and be alone with her thoughts. As much as she loved being around her loved ones, she did miss the freedom and quietness. Even if it was just for a few moments with herself and the bump. The bump had grown quite a lot over the journey, and she wasn't sure whether it was her loosing weight or the child had grown a lot. Either way, she was going to always be on the run with her children in a life of uncertainty. Yet this time, she did not hate it.
"Please do not come, until it is safe to do so." Y/N whispered to the bump, more or less whispering to herself.
"I don't think I can run and give birth to you at the same time." Y/N felt the little one kick her, "I'm glad we agree on that."
Y/N returned back down the hill to see Eadith approach her.
"He is good with children, isn't he?" She said nervously. Y/N looked to see where she was looking.
"Osferth?" Y/N asked with a confused look. Eadith nodded as she fiddled with her rings on her hands.
"Eadith, do you have the sickness? Maybe you should rest. You may change your mind?" Y/N said as she walked off.
"We may have perhaps kissed." Y/N stopped with wide eyes as she looked at the woman. That was not what she had expected to hear nor what she had, though. She was almost kicking herself, knowing she had just lost five pieces of silver to Finan.
"Alright?" Y/N said as she placed her arms on her hips. "What do you want to do about it? He is Osferth, and that says a lot, as you can see."
"It also says very little. It is just you are the first group of people who have never controlled me and Osferth. Well, he is kind, and he is gentle." Y/N nodded at her, still in shock at her words. "I do not wish to be presumptuous on my feelings nor his..."Eadith trailed off with a reddened face.
"Osferth has a big heart and a fools one. You just have to talk to him." Y/N reassured as she went to walk back off.
"Please do not say a word." Y/N nodded at her. "Especially to your husbands."
