Max's POV:
In this universe, when you turn 21 you get a tattoo on your wrist. It's permanent and just appears on your birthday. But, it's not any old tattoo.

Whatever it is, is what your soulmate is the most passionate about. It makes things difficult, since loads of people love the same thing, but it also adds that excitement. Who knows how many times you've walked past your soulmate or even talked to them without realising?

Anyway, I had just turned 21 and had put a plaster on her wrist the night before. I ran downstairs to Will's dorm where Lucas, Will, Mike, and Dustin wished me a happy birthday. I'm was the last one to turn 21 out of the group. Turns out Mike and Will were soulmates which was cool. Dustin's found his soulmate, but Lucas hasn't yet.

"Take off the plaster!" Dustin said, excited.
"I am!" I said, quickly ripping it off.

They all gathered around me and looked at my wrist. "What the fuck is that?" I asked, looking at the circle with squares on it.
"A waffle, duh." Mike said, holding up a box of eggos. "It looks just like it!"
"My soulmate's passion is fucking eggos?!" I asked.

"Don't be rude to them!" Dustin said, "Maybe they just really like waffles."
I groaned, my soulmate is probably gonna be some lazy shit who never gets off the damn couch.

"Whatever, I'll just see y'all on campus." I said, leaving the dorm with my skateboard in hand. I had already gotten ready earlier so I just headed to my lesson.

I kept thinking of who loves waffles in my college, but no one came to mind. Ugh, imagine if they live in another country or something.

The boys and I all managed to get into the same college, but we had to move to California to get good dorms. I'm not complaining though, California is way cooler than boring old Hawkins.

My classes for the day finished, and I still had no idea who my soulmate could be. I went to the boys dorms and hung out with them till it was pitch black outside. "I'm bored, wanna go to the club?" Mike asked.
"But Max- never mind she's 21 now." Lucas said.
We all laughed and grabbed our jackets and coats before heading out.

"So, any idea who your soulmate could be?" Dustin asked when we all sat in Lucas' car.
"Nope. Waffles are so random."
"Maybe that makes it easier." Lucas said, driving.
"Your tattoo is literally a bunch of flowers and after 4 months you haven't found them. Yours is way easier." I said.
"Hey, all you have to do is go up to someone and ask if they like waffles." Will said.
"Most people like waffles! It's just the fact someone likes it enough to be my tattoo!" I said.

"Well, we can work it out. Do you reckon it's a boy or girl?" Mike asked.
I smirked, "I don't know, both genders want me soooo." I shrugged.
He hit me on the arm and I shot him an angry look. "The fuck was that for?" I asked.
"For being a cocky bastard." Mike said, rolling his eyes.

"Maybe your soulmate will be at the bar. It is a Friday after all, loads of people will be there!" Will suggested.
"Maybe." I said, "As long as they're cute and funny, I don't mind."

We talked until we finally reached. It was only a 10 minute drive, so it wasn't that bad. We got inside after the bouncer checked all our IDs. Immediately we were greeted by bright flashing lights and music. It was so loud I could literally feel the vibrations through the damn floor or something.

The dance floor was in the middle of this massive place and disco lights were the only way we could see. Actually, the bar had LEDs under the counter, so we could see that clearly too. There seemed to be a young girl making drinks for everyone there, and I looked at the boys.

"Yo, want any drinks?" I asked.
"Hell yeah!" Dustin said, "We'll come too."

We headed to the bar and sat down on the chairs. The girl finished serving this couple before heading over to us. Even though it was dark, I almost gasped when I saw her face. She was beautiful. Like, definitely the prettiest girl I've ever seen.
